Oshawa has a large Polish community that really helped my dad feel connected and get his footing as a new Canadian 🇵🇱

I had my wedding at the Polish Alliance of Canada Hall at Olive Avenue. The pavilion is Poznan! You need to check it out.

To this day people always talk about the Polish food buffet Gav and I did for our wedding, and I promise it was amazing 🌹

What started off a small little yart sale in a driveway has turned into an amazing community of people and radical memorable days 🤘

This world kind of sucks without you.

I’m not even sure if you would like what it has turned into.

I remember you asking a man at the TD bank if he needed some work since he looked like he was new here and you gave him an opportunity.

People don’t do that these days.

I remember when you bought a cabinet for mom that was just a little too big for our SUV so you found a random man with a truck in the Canadian tire parking lot to help and drive it home. He agreeed and when I went to the backyard you were having beers with him like you’ve know eachother for years.

That doesn’t happen anymore.

I remember you would always go to Pacific mall and make friends with everyone despite language barriers and I would find you with a group of people sharing green tea and Duck.

This world is so different now. I try to keep the same spark you did, but it feels scary at times because I don’t know if people hold the same values.

I hope you’re proud of me, I’m really showing my capabilities, and I’m truly leading with the same style you taught me through these simple actions.

Once you passed, the veil was lifted and I saw the world for what it truly is. I try to embody a sense of class and keep that go foundation like you taught me.

⭐️ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴀʟʟ ⭐️

I’m not sure what it is but the mall always gives me a sense of comfort.

I don’t know why it hits different for me, but I just really like the scents of popcorn and pretzels, perfumes and exploring different trinkets and even a food court abandoned or not.

One of the things I like to when exploring new spaces is go to their malls and convenience stores. I feel like there’s always a really peculiar energy in these spaces that tells a lot about the current time, socioeconomic fabric and what’s really going straight through those doors like a postcard.

I’ll tell you one thing, there was a specific lady who really loved talking with my dad Pacific Mall 太古廣場 She didn’t know much English, but for some reason really liked my dads energy and would always get so excited when we would come and visit. She would serve him duck and maybe even a little extra and they would keep each-other entertained despite a language barrier. I have really fond memories of going there with him. 🦆

I remember looking for the coolest fashions so I could look really cool for none uniform day, and would always end up getting the coolest discounted shoes and styles from The China Town Centre. I would always get compliments these unique fashions I picked up and still do 🐉

A personal fave for me will always be the Oshawa Centre we would take the bus, listen to some of our favourite tunes, only to have some formative experiences to enjoy a movie ( At the time Famous Players was there) and hit the food court for a
Mountain Dew Canada Baja Blast and some Taco Bell . It was the perfect days and the most perfect combination. This place feels good to me even after changes and all these years. I always joke that my favourite place in the world is The Oshawa Centre. But it’s not really a joke. I think it’s actually my comfort space.

And ofcourse we can’t forget the beloved 5points mall, gone but not forgotten. My Fridays would be spent with my friends walking the small mall for something to do. Every Thursday when I was little my dad would buy a beanie baby from Hallmark for my collection. In later years I would buy a bar top from sirens, eat at Mommas or Golden Gate 🍜

What in the 2014 hipster indie wave is going on here?

I’ll tell you, it was definitely none of that,

While I too am a huge fan of exposed light bulbs and IPA’s I could never really get on the stomp clap music trend.

Exactly what I knew and who I was felt like it was slowly fading and becoming a forgotten time, and it all seemed to happen so fast.

Worst part is, I was going into this new world alone. Some of my best friends and I parted ways, and my interests wern’t too relatable to others.

I yearned for the days of hardcore shows, smoked poutine and Tony Hawk pro skater, but all that was happening was traditional tattoos, curled moustaches.

Don’t get me wrong, I get it and appreciate jt. It just wasn’t me.

It wasn’t until I met Gav that I felt a sense of relatability in this new world.

And it all happened when he said “ I started to get into AFI when I heard BURIALS”

My favourite band, that I had abandoned as their music transitioned from punkrock to rock ?

I would begin to revisit and fall in love all over again with a sincere appreciation and reserve judgment.

For real BURIALS that’s soooo late to start getting into them, most fans, like myself had already jumped of the train and way earlier never to look back.

But I’m so glad I revisited 🖤

Everything can change in an instant.

That’s why the moment is truly important.

Our wedding was a small humble expression of our love.

I talk to Gav about this all the time because I’ve never really met anyone that truly knows me like he does.

I was really lucky that day to have the people I truly care about by my side.

I always reference that day as perfect and I am so happy both our dads were able to attend.

It really all started because of mutual friends, Facebook, the AFI Burials.

I really love how old fashioned this photo came out, and it just symbolizes a perfect moment .

When you get those you need to hold onto them.

For me and Davey Havok.

It feels like summer is blowing by, it hasn’t even started and I just got out my gold shoes. 💛

I’m really stoked to do some fun things and really explore the sunshine with Gav.

We’ve got some wicked concerts lined up, some awesome adventures, and ofcourse seeing some pals this August!

I try to plan everything with a little intention, that includes going to to show Gav my earliest and most precious memories of my dad taking us on a Canadian Vacation.

Visiting the spa 🧖

Maintaining my corporate blonde bob 💇‍♀️

And hopefully using these dancing shoes at an emo night ✨
