I thought I would end the year by explaining a bit more about my process while I share this last commission of 2021. All of my drawings start with a reference photo or sometimes a few. From there, I create an initial sketch of the house and yard. The magic happens when I lay down the colour and create the final portrait.

This beautiful home is one of the largest drawings I have done to date (11x16). I loved incorporating the autumn colours and shadows from the majestic trees.

This drawing was such a fun challenge. The large tree in front of the house had recently fallen during a storm and held a lot of sentimental value for the family so the client wanted it featured in their drawing. Unfortunately there was no photo of the tree in this position so it was recreated from a series of photos and is now captured for them to remember.

Just shipped out this commission that has such a nice story behind it! It was ordered for an older couple who were the original owners of this beautiful house (since 1958!) and just sold it to move in with family. Such a thoughtful gift!

A house isn’t just a building; it’s your home! What better way to show your love for your home than turning it into a work of art?

I’ve always loved to create and through the years I’ve experimented with various mediums: graphite, charcoal, oil paint and coloured pencils. When I had children I started using acrylic paints to put murals on their bedroom walls and the pandemic brought me back to the world of art. I was looking for a creative outlet and this was one that I could share with my two children. I started small, drawing simple pictures and painting with watercolours.

I began creating house portraits after discussing what to do about our house with my husband. It is nearly 100 years old and showing its age. We decided we wanted to capture its beauty in its current state so I set out to try and draw it. We love the character or our home and yard, but once inside we don’t really get to see its beauty so a drawing is a great way to bring that charm indoors.

Why not celebrate your own home with a bespoke drawing or share a beautiful gift with friends and family.
