Detroit's "Death" performed at The Mod Club in this past weekend to a sold out crowd who got to experience history 50 years in the making, as part of the excellent Project Nowhere indie-music festival programming. The African-American proto-punk band consisted of three brothers (Bobby, Dannis, David) who recorded their first (and only) single back in the mid-1970s, before disappearing into obscurity. After a unforeseen sudden resurgence of interest spurred by rabid underground punk scenesters, they were signed to Drag City Records and finally were able to release a full album, with new material on the horizon. The current incarnation of the band is without their brother David, who passed away, and was the main inspiration for the band. Bobby's three sons have since since started their own punk punk of original tracks and Death covers, under the name ROUGH FRANCIS. Catch them live if you can, and also make sure to watch the documentary on them, "A Band Called Death" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4ZJ65oxyQQ&list=OLAK5uy_nCANfL0DjpvoMKmCVyym1yu5K7oum2Ybg

Project Nowhere music festival kicks off tonight in Toronto, and runs until Saturday Oct 3, 2026 at various venues within the westend of the city, featuring a lineup of local and international artists divided into showcases. Two worthy picks of note are NYC's spacey noise rock act A Place To Bury Strangers at St. Anne's Parish Hall (651 Dufferin St) along with two local Toronto openers, Shallow Waves and Hot Garbage. As well, later in the evening don't miss 1970s African-American Detroit proto-punk rockers Death at The Mod Club (722 College St) along with Bristol's LICE and Upchuck from Atlanta. Grab a weekend pass, or individual showcase tickets - https://www.projectnowhere.org/

Co-presented with Stompbox and ahead of their first Toronto show in 12 years - the much beloved documentary "A Band Called Death" will be screening at Revue Cinema on September 18th at 9:30PM.

"You Had To Be There" is a documentary on the 1972 Toronto production of the "Godspell" musical, that also pieces together how many of the actors and comedians also intertwined together in almost an incestuous way between The Second City Toronto, SCTV, and Saturday Night Live. It's wonderfully done with clips from the past and animated vignettes, interspersed with interviews from those members still around today, including Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Paul Shaffer, Andrea Martin, Dave Thomas, and Jayne Eastwood. A truly Canadian viewing experience! RIP Gilda Radner, John Candy, Catherine O'Hara. Now screening at select theatres across Canada, including Oct 2 to 8, 2026 at Toronto's TIFF Lightbox Theatre (350 King St W) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWNj0ZgfgDk G*T PR Greenwich Entertainment

RIP David Marsden (Dave Mickie/The Mars Bar), the founder and Program Director of CFNY 102.1 (now The Edge), the original alternative music station of the 1980s that shaped the musical lives of so many disenfrancised youth.
