Samba is a Brazilian rhythm that originated from Africans Slaves' music heritage that was brought to Brazil around 1500 a.c.

Terreiro is a Portuguese word that means a place where Afro-Brazilian slaves would gather for an african diasporic religious meeting called Candomble in Brazil during the 19th century.



Also, Terreiro was considered a “house” where they would enjoy free time, relax and connect with their soul and body through faith and cherish their ancestry.



Beyond the ceremony, Terreiros were Cultural Centres where the African slaves would gather to dance, play music and cook together.



In 1916, a meeting at Tia Ciata’s backyard was considered the milestone and birthplace of the Samba. Ciata’s yard became a trendsetting cultural hub where new samba composers and songs could find popularity before the existence of radio in Brazil.



With that in mind, we created Terreiro do Samba as a meeting place with Afro-Brazilian Culture and a place to connect with ancestry, music, samba, friends and joy.

Terreiro do Samba está de volta! E dessa vez com uma convidada super especial!

Fabiana C***a, diretamente de São Paulo será a convidada da Roda de Samba de Toronto, no Lula Lounge, Domingo, 24 de Julho, às5 pm.

Fabiana traz nas mãos e na voz o samba ancestral. O eco dos terreiros, as cores da Bahia e o ritmo das rodas de samba do Rio de Janeiro. O samba que foi pai da bossa nova, o samba que hoje encontra abrigo nessa cantora da estatura de Cesária Évora e Omara Portuondo.

A Roda de Samba de Toronto é formando por esses grandes artistas: Carlinhos Cardozo, Cristiano Oliveira, André Valério, e Djardan Baiano.

Hey Toronto! Terreiro do Samba is back! And this time with a super special guest!

Fabiana C***a, directly from São Paulo, will be the guest of the Roda de Samba de Toronto, at Lula Lounge, Sunday, July 24, 5 pm.

Fabiana brings the ancient samba in her hands and in her voice, an echo from the terreiros, where the old Afro traditions meet, the colors of Bahia and the rhythm from the samba circles from Rio de Janeiro. The samba that fathered Bossa Nova is the samba that finds a home in this singer who stands next to Cesária Évora and Omara Portuondo.
