🧡 Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day! 🧡

“... it’s about returning to the land as a people. The closer we are to the earth, the more respect we have, and the more respect, the more we will fight to protect. The old ways of our people are more valuable today than ever. The ancient laws transcend culture, language, money, education, and everything we have come to consider important. We are a people lost on the land of our ancestors, yet the directions for a way out are all around us. It’s time to give value to what is and always will be the truth of the land.” - Roy

“We are children of the earth, and we call her Mother, as she provides for us in many ways, the water we drink, the food we eat, clean air to breathe, and medicine for our healing journey. There is a place not far from where I live known as the Sacred Headwaters.

The Sacred Headwaters is a remote mountainous region that is home to the headwaters of the salmon-bearing rivers, the Skeena, Nass, and Stikine. This area is the territory of the Tahltan people, who have fought to keep Shell from coal-bed methane development in this rich ecosystem. The Tahltan are now fighting to keep open-pit coal mines, proposed for the area, from being developed.

I am thankful to Paul Colangelo and his four years of photography for helping bring international attention to this beautiful place. Paul is a National Geographic Explorer and member of the International League of Conservation Photographers. Paul has captured an iconic picture. The moose cow and calf are indicative of Canada’s wilderness. The blue skies always remind me of fresh air and the water. We all need water. Cool, clear, and clean water to sustain us. Paul’s photograph has inspired me to create this work of art I call Mother Earth.

This work is dedicated to the Tahltan First Nations and all who fight to protect an area that deserves to be conserved for generations to come.”

This piece is available as a Remarqué and as a blockmount. Learn more about it in person or online (link in bio). Worldwide shipping is available.

NEW RELEASE!

Roy’s newest print, titled Wet Coast, depicts a rainy North Chesterman Beach with the spirit image of a grey whale in the sky. Feel the all-encompassing heavy, grey rain clouds as it covers up the beach, bringing a calmness to the image. This work features his stylistic portrayal of rain, inspired by the Japanese masters.

Roy was inspired to create this print while visiting Tofino in March of this year to tell stories and to celebrate 40 years of the gallery’s opening. That week, there was an extended atmospheric river, with constant, heavy rain. This week was also the annual Whale Festival, celebrating the return of the migrating whales to the area.

Learn more about this print in person or online (link in bio). 80 prints are available, in ode to Roy’s 80th birthday. Worldwide shipping is available.
