Inspired by a 19th-century Haida bentwood chest featured in the book, The Transforming Image, this bentwood box became an opportunity to explore the subtle details, movement, and asymmetry of this historic Haida master artist. Through the process, Bell gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of this artist's approach to the complexity and visual language of Haida formline.⁠
