Today a large team came together to erect the centre column of the C.W. Parker Carousel at Chippewa Park, Thunder Bay. This is the 3rd time since 1934-35 that the column has been installed. Great work by Parks Staff, M Build and others in safely and correctly getting the column in place and secured. Over the next 3 to 4 weeks Chippewa Park staff will assemble the entire carousel for the last time as it moves into its new and permanent home. An exciting day for sure.

Volunteers Needed Urgently!

The Friends of Chippewa Park need to recruit a small group of volunteers to clean and polish the brass poles of our heritage carousel. Parks and Open Spaces will be ready to assemble the restored C. W. Parker Carousel next week and we hope to have the brass poles bright and shinny before they are installed. One set of poles support the carousel floor while another larger set support the individual horses.

The cleaning and polishing will be done using drills with a polishing pad accompanied by a cleaning/polishing paste. It takes about an hour to clean and polish each brass rod.

The work will be done at Chippewa Park, although volunteers with their own shop space will have brass rods delivered to them.

We have about 3 weeks to get this work completed.

If you are interested and available please send an email to [email protected] indicating your name, address and phone number. Also please indicate whether you have your own drill – either electric or battery and if you have a workspace where you can do the cleaning and polishing.
Please join the broad range of local volunteers who have contributed to the restoration of our 1915 heritage carousel.
