This five day workshop with Janine will help instill confidence and increase the enjoyment of Plein Air Painting in artist of all levels.
�If you have painting experience but have never tried en Plein Air, or have tried it but found it difficult, you are in for a treat. If you are someone that is new to painting then this workshop is also for you as you will learn how to put a painting together, paint application techniques, colour and colour mixing and how to make your own mark with. brushwork. All in the beauty of the Blue Mountain area.
�Janine is a seasoned artist who has been there and painted through rain, sleet, hail andsnow, perfect fall days, sunshine and heat of summer. Experienced in all media, watercolour, acrylic, oils and pastels, she willingly shares that knowledge to encourage the growth of other budding artists. She encourages you to bring your media of choice so that she can pass on her experience, knowledge and the fun of Painting en Plein Air, while discovering some of the most beautiful public and private properties available.

Lee Munn is a Landscape painter. Lee is a firm believer in painting in his home city & province. He travels all over Ontario in all seasons painting small pieces on location
and taking photographs, then bringing them home to his studio to
turn them into larger paintings. Nature and the outdoors have always
played a strong role in his art.�
Lee is a proud member of SCA “The Society of Canadian Artists”
and OSA “The Ontario Society of Artists”. Lee has a number of
pieces of his artwork exhibited across Canada, the U.S.A and Europe
which is represented in private and public collections.

JOHN DAVID ANDERSON�June 8 - 12 2026 • Plein Air • Oil/Acrylic

John is an award winning and entertaining teacher who demonstrates and lectures from his own experiences. He applies the basic techniques used by generations of artists to his unique way of seeing the landscape. Like many artists before him, the quality of light in anything he sees becomes the focus of his thinking as he works through his painting. Plein air painting is painting like no other method. Dealing with real information in a real and constantly changing environment necessitates letting go of detailed rendering and just going for an impression of what you are seeing.John builds his composition by starting with large shapes of value and then refining it with the elements of value and colour. Movement and drama are created by the skilful use of light and shadow, lost and found edges and warm and cool colours. John will focus on an approach that will give you both historical and contemporary techniques used in plein air painting. You will gain compositional skills, learn colour theory and colour mixing as applied to the light story on location.Through demonstrations, personal attention and critiques you will come away with a better handle on the joys of plein air painting.The demonstrations will be in oil but acrylic painters are easily accommodated

The Blue Mountain School teaches plein air painting by well established artists of differing media to small classes of students near Collingwood, Ontario on Georgian Bay.

This year we are excited to offer a course for artists of all levels who are new to Plein air painting!

JANINE MARSON�June 1 - 5 , 2026 •Intro to Plein Air • Acrylic

My goals for teaching are to meet people where they are at and provide a warm, encouraging and engaging environment so people can lose their fear and find their individual responses in art. I’ve designed and taught every age from youth to seniors; for the Scarborough Board of Ed, The City of Scarborough, Seneca- King Campus, Continuing Ed for Georgian College, College level courses since 2013 for HSA+D Fleming College on drawing, colour and composition inspiring 1000’s of students.

A sense of wonder, combined with light and colour, is the driving force of my lifelong work to express the beauty of nature and my love of the land. The moments that take my breath away are the moments I want to paint. The energy of my brushwork is my signature that exudes my innermost thoughts. My goal is to inspire and encourage students to discover their own voice to express the beauty they see in the landscape.

2026 is the 44th season of the The Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting spring painting workshops. This is a rare opportunity where local property owners allow students to enjoy and paint beautiful, often historic sites. The BMSLP is a nonprofit organization established in 1980 with the goals “to encourage and foster awareness, interest and talent in the art of landscape painting in the Blue Mountain area”. What started as a way to bring in teachers for a group of keen local artists, turned into a well respected art school that has provided thousands of students the opportunity to explore, learn & paint amidst the beautiful landscape of South Georgian Bay. Classes are offered in a variety of mediums & accommodate students of all levels.

Well…that’s a wrap! Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting - BMSLP 2025 has sadly come to the end. What a great time it was.!
We concluded with a week of watercolour with Andy Sookrah and another great group of artists🎨
Thank you to all our fantastic instructors & a big thank you to all the painters who joined us this season. It was a pleasure to get to know you all.!

Concluded with time supporting the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts during their 50th anniversary art market in Collingwood. The weather may have been on the coolish side, but the smiles were warm.

Week 4 Days1, 2,3
Having a great time learning to paint with oils with John David Anderson

Great weather and site locations made for some wonderful learning and paintings. While the rain held off till later in the afternoon today, we all had a wonderful time at the historic strathmore property in Meaford.
Fingers crossed for sun tomorrow.
Topped the day off with dinner and an opportunity to connect further. Loved the day. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Week 3 of Plein air with Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting - BMSLP was another great one🎨

Despite cooler temps and some wind, the group weathered the weather and had a great time. A BIG thank you to our outstanding instructor, Sam Paonessa. His unique use of palette knives, brushes, and shapers is amazing🖌️

Thank you also to the fantastic artists who joined us and made for a fun an enjoyable week:) The group produced some great work!
