Studio 79 presents ‘Under the Barnlights’ with Brooks & Bowskill (with full band) ✨ the 1st of 4 barn sessions.

is the collaboration of Canadian wife-and-husband musicians Brittany Brooks and Jimmy Bowskill (Blue Rodeo, formerly The Sheepdogs).
​
Their genre-bending music journeys between folk, country-rock, rock and roll, drenched in 1960s/70s nostalgia and stamped with their own unique sound. They have quickly become known for their soaring vocal harmonies, expert musicianship and electric live performances with their band The Hometown Beauts.

I am very excited to announce this series. Like a pop-up & a similar concept to my past shows held at the John Saunders Centre. Still intimate, but on a slightly larger scale.

📍The location is a 5-10 min drive from Collingwood, in Nottawa.

Two bright stars of Newfoundland’s music scene, Youngtree & Carole Bee, return to the studio stage this July. ✨

They have been playing music together since 2015, developing a close musical and creative partnership through their original touring band Youngtree & The Blooms. As a duo, they have one rule: “Only play music we love.” This means an eclectic mix of traditional and modern folk music, well-crafted original songs and instrumentals, and a joyous, intimate energy shared with audiences.

Studio 79 is overjoyed to have Basia Bulat grace our stage this Fall. I was captivated by her performance at Mariposa last year and can not wait to have her in our intimate space.
​
In addition to her powerhouse voice, Bulat is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, recording and performing on electric guitar, piano, autoharp, ukulele, bass and charango.
​
Basia is a JUNO- and Polaris Prize-nominated singer-songwriter based in Montreal. She offers both a distinctive voice and artistry that pulls as much from R&B and soul as it does from freak folk. She has been invited to perform at prestigious tributes to Leonard Cohen, Daniel Lanois, and The Band.

Since releasing her debut in 2007, she has shared a stage with artists including The National, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Daniel Lanois, St Vincent, Sufjan Stevens, and Destroyer, and collaborated as a songwriter with artists across many genres, including US Girls and Jeremy Dutcher.

The clothing focuses on comfort, style and variety. I took great care choosing fabrics and styles that feel good to wear, and created some unique to the studio designs. I wanted some designs to be bold and others to be subtle with low contrast or logo placement.

I’ve teamed up with .ca to bring you two custom candle scents – ‘Studio 79’, & aka, ‘Anna’s Garage’. A portion of each candle sale helps bring music education to local youth.

Avoid shipping costs and pick up at the studio — let me know if you want me to put anything aside.

Nicholas Campbell & The Metre Cheaters are lighting up our intimate stage this June.✨

Merging the sounds of rockabilly from the genres golden era with a crooning style like no other, at 20 years old Nicholas Campbell has gained himself a reputation as “the real deal”. Campbell first picked up the guitar at age 10 and was gigging by 11.

“He bills his music as ‘hot-rod rockabilly’ and has the chops to back it up” - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

The band released Campbell’s debut album Livin’ and Other Western Ideas in 2021, combining elements of rockabilly, western swing, and good old-fashioned h***y tonk. The result was a brisk, invigorating album that feels as fresh as it does familiar.

In 2023 the band worked alongside James McKenty on the 2024 release of Gonna Have a Ball Tonight!, Campbell’s sophomore record; an eclectic collection of songs recorded live off the floor by McKenty. The band has enjoyed worldwide coverage and airplay since, spanning from across North America to Europe and beyond. 2024 also saw the release of He Said She Said, the first single from a third upcoming album.
