Elated to share these photos of my most recent work, unofficially titled "Carver Girl"

I spent many hours and nights working on this piece, reflecting on the lineage of women in my family and the power in women who carve. Historically and currently, their work speaks volumes. We take on many roles such as leaders, teachers, providers. I am humbled and honoured to walk a similar path with my own work. To create life in my own way - in my carvings. It's compelling me forward as I continue on as a lifelong learner.

There will always be wood chips gathering around me.

I'm a carver girl.

“Mosquito Season”

I sat with this artwork for awhile, wondering what these robins were getting up to as they flew around. I had spent the days making them with my saw and hammer but was still unsure if they were playing, dancing, or just flying. I came to the realization these birds were hunting and started to craft these little mosquitos evading their dives. While mosquitos are annoying to us all, they are a food source for both robins and salmon.

" Jumping Chum "

Been enjoying a big of painting the last little while, I designed this work after an image of a chum salmon jumping upstream.

"Turmoil"

I carved this one as a sister piece to my work "Salmon Run". It's made to represent visually the revolving cycle of salmon, through turmoil. They are impacted by the destructive resource industry, warming waters, commercial foriegn fisheries, fish farming and many issues other not named here.

By the end of my time carving I was feeling like I'd pushed it to nearly the breaking point, a reflection of the current situation on many of these issues.
