🌾 Did you know? 🌾

Long before the tractor pulls, the prize-winning pies, and the bright lights of the midway, agricultural societies were paving the way for communities like ours across Canada!

Here is a little Throwback Thursday history for you:

The very first agricultural society in Canada was formed all the way back in 1765 in Nova Scotia.

Ontario's roots started growing shortly after, with our province's first society established in 1792.

For over two centuries, agricultural societies have been the heartbeat of rural communities—bringing people together to celebrate farming, food, local talent, and heritage.

At the Tavistock Agricultural Society, we are so proud to keep that incredible tradition alive today! We love connecting our history with our bright future, and we can't wait to celebrate with you all again soon. 🚜❤️

​Time flies, but the best traditions stay the same. This throwback from the Tavistock Fall Fair dairy 4-H show captures a timeless bond between lifelong dairy farmer Frank Meisner and his youngest grandson, Keeton.

​Agricultural fairs are built on the backs of families who show up year after year, generation after generation. When we give our youth a place in the show ring, we aren't just teaching them how to lead an animal—we are teaching them who they are, where they come from, and the value of hard work.

​Here’s to the grandpas who teach, the grandkids who listen, and the traditions that never fade.

The One That Didn’t Make It! 🥚💥😂

If you want to see true high-stakes drama, look no further than the Egg Drop Competition! As this photo perfectly captures, sometimes gravity wins.

We love seeing our older teens get in on the action—because let’s be honest, the "splat" is half the fun! It takes some serious guts (and maybe a little bit of yolk) to put your engineering skills on the line in front of the whole town.

But beyond the cracked eggs and the laughs, moments like this are exactly how the Tavistock Agricultural Society supports our youth:

🏗️ Hands-On Learning: Whether it’s the Egg Drop, the King of the Patch pumpkin growing, or livestock shows, we give kids a platform to build real-world skills, responsibility, and a bit of "try, try again" resilience!
🎤 Leadership & Growth: Programs like our Fair Ambassador competition help students build incredible public speaking and leadership skills that look great on a resume (and even better in real life).
💰 Investing in the Future: Most every ribbon won comes with a bit of prize money, and every volunteer hour served helps our local students give back to the community they grew up in.

The Fair isn’t just for little kids—it’s a training ground for our future leaders, engineers, and farmers. It grows up with you!
