It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Murray MacKay early this week.
If you spent any time at the North Shore Rec Centre, you knew Murrayâeven if you didnât realize it at the time.
Because Murray was behind everything.
The John K. Memorial Field didnât just look after itself.
The ditches, the upkeep, the condition of the field for the school, soccer, and ballâit was Murray.
The equipment didnât just stay maintained.
The upgrades didnât just happen.
The grants didnât just get looked into.
That was Murray.
You never had to wonder if something was taken care of⌠because he had already done it.
And it didnât stop outside.
Inside the building, Murray was just as present.
From the new ice pad to organizing volunteers, moving equipment, getting things readyâhe showed up. Every time.
If you asked Murray for help, the answer was yes.
No fuss. No recognition needed. Just quiet, steady commitment.
Curling was another place he gave so much of himself.
The ice mattered to him. It had to be right.
And because of that, it was.
Bonspiels, events, day-to-day prep⌠Murray took pride in it all.
And our curling communityâand this entire facilityâare better because of him.
Murray also served as a board member over the past years, continuing to give his time, his energy, and his care to this community.
There arenât really big enough words for someone like Murray.
He was the kind of person who just made things work⌠and made this place better without ever asking for anything in return.
He will be deeply missed.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
We are incredibly grateful for everything Murray gave to the North Shore Rec Centre, and we will continue to honour his legacy in the work we do here every day.
Thank you, Murray.
