Did we take a bit of a hiatus? Yes. Was it for a good reason? Absolutely. Our Chief Mechanical Officer and crew worked incredibly hard the last few months to make it possible for us to operate our steam locomotive #41 for the remainder of our regular 2026 season!

Today was our practice trip day to make sure everything is mechanically sound and ready to roll; which we can confidently say was a success. For the rest of our scheduled excursions we’ve switched them from diesel to steam, and we sure do hope to see you here! 🚂

Pictured here is Darielle Rairdan, representing the Bar Harbour Camp on Buffalo Lake’s board of directors, accepting a $5,000 cheque from Julie Symes, Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions’ reservations and front office manager. These funds were raised from the monies donated by passengers during the horse-mounted train robberies that were part of the entertainment included with the company’s excursions during the 2025 season. All the money raised in this fashion are annually donated to various local and Alberta children’s charities.

Today, Alberta Prairie will observe the International Day of Mourning. At 11:00 am, we will hold a minute of silence, followed by a single long whistle to honor those who have been injured or lost their lives while at work. This serves as a reminder that everyone, regardless of their role, shares responsibility for workplace safety.
