Ever wondered what the Turning The Tide awards are supposed to be? (Hint: it's not a lobster claw!)

Created by Newfoundland Artist Ray Cox at Quidi Vidi Pewter, the design takes its inspiration from a seal’s hind flippers (traditionally known as “hinder daddles” in the Dictionary of Newfoundland English).

In other words, it's an award shaped by the very heritage it honours. Its distinctive form connects the achievements of our recipients with the maritime culture that has shaped this province for generations - and it's a privilege to place them in the hands of those who help carry that culture forward.

First fall day of the year in the shop🍁 Can’t wait for the cooler weather for both making metal and working outside. is gonna be both a busy and an exciting one. Finishing up our corporate awards and then onto making stuff for Christmas all the way up till the big day. Also started my fall Reno’s on the shop and can’t wait to share photos when it’s all said and done… 😍 Open 10am-6pm Monday-Friday and 10am-6pm Saturdays.

It was a true honour to get to make these again this year. 2026 is the first year I fully made all ten of the awards from the starting process to the end finish. (Thanks to Ray for trusting me with this grand task) I’m very happy with how these turned out and congratulations to all the winners. Beyond grateful to have these opportunities. The Circle of distinction awards are no different and have become an incredibly important, beautiful and iconic award. The YWCA St.John’s does a spectacular job with the award. Some great shots of this year’s trip to Fogo Island. This was our fourteen visit to the island since I was swept away by its magic upon our first visit way back in 2018.
Between the co-op, the inn and everything in between, this place is both beautiful and resilient and shows how community matters more than anything else. The strength of the people here are un matched. It’s the people that make a place remarkable and Fogo Island is full of some of the most lovely and hard working human beings you will ever meet. We are so fortunate to have spent so much time here. The studios offer so many opportunities to a large variety of artists. Shore fast has done an incredible job. The Cox crew takes on Fogo Island 2026…
