We close our 26/27 Season with Recital 4 with Michelle Cheramy.

The program begins with Joseph Haydn at his most clever and clear, a quartet that feels both light on its feet and tightly built.
Two works by Alice Ho shift the sound world, bringing in new textures and colors, including a striking role for flute, where Michelle Cheramy will join the quartet. Amy Beach’s Theme and Variations rounds things out, unfolding gradually and giving the whole ensemble space to really settle into a shared sound.

Recital 3 moves through a range of voices and moods. Kevin Lau’s Third Quartet opens with a fresh, contemporary sound, followed by Elizabeth Maconchy’s compact and intense Quartet No.3. Robert Schumann’s Quartet in A minor closes the program, warm and lyrical, with that sense of intimacy and emotional pull that sits right at the heart of his music.

For Recital 2 with Duo Concertante the program leans into rich, expressive chamber music. Louis Vierne’s String Quartet in D minor opens with something dark and searching, full of tension and colour. From there, the Atlantic String Quartet welcomes special guests Duo Concertante, Nancy Dahn, violin and Tim Steeves, piano to join them to perform Ernest Chausson’s Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet, a work where the lines between soloist and ensemble start to blur in a really beautiful way.

Recital 1 begins the series with individual moments for each member of the Atlantic String Quartet, with a set of solo works that exhibit their unique musical personalities from composers John Corigliano and NL-based Andrew Staniland. In the second half, they come together for Ludwig Van Beethoven’s String Quartet in A major, Op. 18, No. 5, a piece full of charm, quick turns, and a sense of conversation you only really get from Beethoven at his most playful.

Start your year off with the NSO's Sinfonia 2: Four Seasons with acclaimed leader/violinist Andrew Wan!

This program moves through the four seasons by placing Antonio Vivaldi’s well known violin concertos alongside Max Richter’s modern reimagining. Hearing them side by side highlights how the same seasonal ideas can feel vivid, dramatic, or quietly reflective depending on the musical language. Interwoven throughout are selections from The Irish Seasons by Ailbhe McDonagh, offering another perspective on spring, summer, autumn, and winter. These pieces add a contemporary voice rooted in Irish musical character, creating contrast while keeping the seasonal thread clear.

"What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play" in the words of Cabaret join us for Sinfonia 1: A Night at The Cabaret! with conductor Simon Rivard and soprano Danika Lorèn for an evening of cabaret favourites.

The evening opens with music from John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Cabaret, bringing the sound of the theatre straight into the hall, lively, a little cheeky, and sometimes quietly reflective. Songs
by William Bolcom follow, continuing that cabaret tradition with music that feels close, personal, and directly connected to the words.Works by Kurt Weill, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Jacques Ibert bring variety to the second half of the program, from the well known waltz by Dimitri Shostakovich to theatrical song and lighter orchestral pieces, creating an evening shaped by stage music, memorable tunes, and strong character.
