RCAT is pleased to share that its 2026-27 Season opens with a presentation of Perchance Theatre's Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. This production stars Harbour Grace's favourite son, John Sheehan, and is directed by Allison Moira Kelly.

Every Brilliant Thing is a one-man show, following his journey through life, love, and loss, using honesty, humour, and a growing list of joys to navigate the impact of his mother’s mental illness.

We're just a few days away from Lois Brown and James O’Callaghan's Everything has a hole, a technical residency presented by RCAT and supported through the CAPF Fund. Produced by NAX and friends with the support of ArtsNL. It's not too late to get your tickets. You do not want to miss this.

"Everything has a hole" is a two-hander about water and plastic featuring performer creators Lois Brown and James O’Callaghan (composer). Described by Rick Mercer as “unsettling, beautiful and very funny."

What appears on the LSPU stage is lots of water and plastic moved as it moves. We hear it. We sense ourselves as containers of water and a part of a larger hydro-commons, as we stretch to imagine water beyond the anthropocene, the warming, the data centres -- to think of water's essential and striking beauty, its ice and steam, its weight - our thirst, its oneness and realize this element that keeps us alive won’t always be available. Predicted by artists for years, now it's real. We invite you to world the water on our planet, and in our cyborgian bodies with its microplastics, and to imagine water anew. To step in water again. Yes all that, but it's also a funny, curious and personal show.

August 15th is an open dress rehearsal with moderated feedback from the audience. August 16th is 40 min performance + 45 min panel (moderated by Pat Foran)

In addition to our own community initiatives, VOCM Cares provides program funding to local charities with a focus on strengthening communities in Newfoundland and Labrador in the areas of health, education, and safety.

Don't forget that that submissions are still open for RCA Theatre's 2026-27 Playwright in Residence! Closing July 27th!

As a provincial leader in the development and production of new plays, RCAT is committed to fostering our local community of writers and theatre creators. The Playwright in Residence position is designed to support an established writer in the development of their own work through financial compensation and in-kind support, with the Playwright in Residence also supporting our community of emerging writers through a creative development/mentorship initiative of their choosing, designed in consultation with Artistic Animateur Meghan Greeley. This initiative could consist of workshops, one-on-one dramaturgical sessions, etc.
The program is open to established playwrights with a history of public presentation. Special consideration will be given to playwrights with a background in community engagement and workshop facilitation.
Applicants must reside in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Remuneration
The 2026 Playwright in Residence will receive:
- 15,000 honorarium
- Tickets to all shows in RCAT's 2026/27 Season
- Workshop support for their script in development.
How to Apply
Applicants are asked to submit the following:
· A letter of interest that includes the script proposal
· A CV
· A sample of the proposed script or excerpt of the Playwright’s previous work. (Max 20 pages.)
