Dearest friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I relay the following news. Due to the effects of Covid-19, we have opted not to renew our lease on the deck. I have run all possible options, and unfortunately, it is simply not feasible for us to do so at this time.
However, if everything goes according to plan, we will open our doors again someday, somewhere. Treble has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I am deeply saddened by this unplanned closure. It's uncertain how long it will last, or what the future climate will look like. All plans seem to be contingent on externals these days, so it's impossible to say when we will open our doors again. However, I believe that Treble has always been a worthwhile endeavor, and is worth the setbacks and challenges associated with it. It is definitely something that I would want to attempt for a second time at the very least. Treble will reassess it's business model, keep a close eye on current events, and help with the scene in whatever way we can in the meantime (feel free to hit me up if you need a hand with something or have a cool project in mind). Our long-term goal is to come back when the time is right and pick up where we left off.
Unfortunately, we are not alone in this, and other venues and performers have been affected as well. Covid-19 has been a Goliath, but I believe that David is coming. Not with a sling and a stone, but with instruments and makeup palettes. The local character and talent cannot be overstated, and although the Treble location on the deck is no more, it was only a small part of our wonderful community. When I think of Treble, I don't think of the four walls that surrounded it, nor the venue on the deck that I loved. I think of the positive vibes that we share for each other and our scene; the open-mindedness and support towards amateurs honing their craft; as well as the acceptance of each other's differences and the celebration of the things that unite us as a creative community. The pride I felt because of the bar wasn't about numbers, prestige, praise or ego. It was about YOU and the way that you all made me feel, the creativity and vibrancy that flows from the scene and the feeling that we were making our little corner of the world a little brighter, a little louder, and a little more accepting. I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity to share that with you at our location on the deck, if only for a moment. You have my deepest thanks.
Things are pretty crazy right now, and the future is uncertain, and I don't exactly know when Treble will open it's doors again. But I do believe better days are on the horizon. Assuming everything goes according to plan, we will reopen sometime after this awful pandemic is in the rear-view mirror. Stay safe. You are as much a part of Treble as we are, so we will need your talent, creativity and enthusiasm again in the future. Treble would not have existed without your love and support. Keep your heads up high. You deserve to be proud of what you've accomplished at Treble. I am certainly proud of the people who graced our stage, those who worked diligently behind the bar and those who in one way or another made the nights on the deck a little friendlier.
At the risk of dropping an additional pound of cheese on everyone, allow me to use some words from an unlikely source, a children's book read to me a long, long time ago. Sometimes plain language is the best way to convey strong emotional messages and I'm sure we're not the only ones going through challenging times right now.
Christopher Robbins, as he is reading to Winnie the Pooh says:
“If every there is a day when we cannot be together,
here is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe.
You are stronger that you seem.
You are smarter than you think.
And if we cannot be together, I will keep you in my heart.
You will stay there forever.”
Thanks for the great times, ROCK ON!!! 🤘😁🤘
