Guess what?! It's our 10th season! I know, we can hardly believe it, either. Since October 2008, we've hosted 50 different events - from formal presentations to interactive debates and music recitals - about women, culture, and the spaces of the imagination.
Get your agendas out! We're busily planning this winter's series, and here's what's coming up:
PERFORMING CANADA FOR CANADA:
REFLECTING ON 'CANADA: IT'S COMPLICATED'
Tues., Feb. 6 at 7 pm, MMaP Gallery, Arts and Culture Centre
Over a 3-month period in 2017, St. John’s-based actor, Jamie Pitt toured Canada as part of Mary Walsh’s new show, Canada: It’s Complicated, which considers the good, the bad, and the ugly of Canada, all delivered with Walsh’s signature biting wit and stinging humour. In this presentation, Jamie reflects on the production, the tour, audience responses, and the complexities of performing Canada for Canada.
THE THINGS WE KEEP:
CONVERSATIONS ON MIGRATIONS, MEMORIES & STORIES
Thurs., March 8 at 7 pm, MMaP Gallery, Arts & Culture Centre
We invite you to be part of our conversation about the things we keep. When we travel we leave bits of ourselves behind at every turn. But we also bring bits of ourselves along with us on our journeys. What things do you keep close at hand when you move? And what things have you left behind in the various places you’ve called home? We'd love to hear your stories.
DANCING TOGETHER:
CREATING A DANCE WORKSHOP FOR INCARCERATED WOMEN
Thurs, March 22 at 7 pm, MMaP Gallery, Arts & Culture Centre
We welcome Amy Sheppard, social worker and MUN PhD student, who will share her ethnographic experience of offering a dance workshop to women living in prison. The purpose of the workshop was to provide women in prison with an opportunity to discuss body image, embodiment, and the impacts of prison on the body. She will focus on the process of creating the workshop and the lessons she learned as a result of dialoguing and dancing with women in prison.
And more to come in April (and possibly May!)
