Yesterday, Kalon Services NL’s Provincial Director, Sheena Best, attended the NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) refresher training.

At Kalon, we are committed to promoting safe, supportive, and respectful environments for the children and youth in our care.

That’s why all Kalon staff and family-based carers receive annual NVCI training to support their ability to respond to challenging situations safely, confidently, and compassionately.

We believe that ongoing training, learning, and professional development are essential to providing quality care and support to the children, youth, and families we serve. 💙

❤️ October is Foster Family Appreciation Month! ❤️

This month, we celebrate and recognize the incredible families who open their homes and their hearts to children and youth in care.

Foster families provide so much more than a safe place to stay. They provide stability, patience, encouragement, connection, and a sense of belonging—often during some of the most challenging times in a child or youth’s life.

Fostering takes compassion, flexibility, commitment, and a willingness to show up each day. It means celebrating the little victories, navigating the difficult moments, advocating for children and youth, and creating a space where they feel safe, valued, and supported.

At Kalon Services NL, we are incredibly grateful for our dedicated family-based carers and the difference they make every single day. Your care matters. Your commitment matters. And the impact you have on the lives of children and youth matters. 💙

Today, Kalon Services NL takes time to remember and honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this history.

Every Child Matters.

As an organization committed to supporting children, youth, families, and communities, we recognize that reconciliation begins with listening, learning, remembering, and taking meaningful action.

Today, we encourage our staff, caregivers, families, and community partners to take time to learn about the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, listen to Indigenous voices and experiences, and reflect on how we can contribute to a future grounded in respect, understanding, healing, and belonging.

We wear orange today in remembrance and in recognition of the truth that Every Child Matters — yesterday, today, and always. 🧡
