Opera on the Avalon is committed to turning our history into art though new commissions, the first of which was Atlantic Canadaâs first grand opera, Ours, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, written by composer John Estacio and librettist Robert Chafe. Ours was celebrated as "a remarkable accomplishment" by Opera News. Aside from its work onstage, Opera on the Avalon is committed to civic impact though active community participation to raise collective consciousness of our past while contributing to the cultural and civic tapestry of our future.
