Good morning! We have an important update following our Special Meeting of the members, which took place on Thursday, June 18.
A motion to extend the mandate of the Interim Board of Directors by 120 days was unanimously approved at the meeting. This extends their mandate to October 16, 2026. The extension will allow the interim board to continue the work it has begun, both in stabilizing the organization and its finances, and in planning and orchestrating a Folk Festival on August 8. The Interim Board has committed, prior to the expiry of the extended mandate, to organize and convene an Annual General Meeting of the membership in the fall of 2026, including the recruitment of candidates for the purpose of electing a new Board of Directors in accordance with the Societyโs bylaws.
In addition, a motion to appoint an auditor prior to the next Annual General Meeting was also approved unanimously. With this approval, the audit is now moving forward.
Your commitment to the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society means a lot. We thank all of our members who attended the June 18 meeting, shared their thoughts, and voted on the presented motions. We encourage all members to get involved and have their say. We are committed to transparency in our work to stabilize the society, and we hope to hear from you, our members and our broader community!
