The 208th Royal St. John’s Regatta is going ahead, and the shopping centre is closed today, Wednesday, August 5th.

As North America’s oldest organized sporting event, with roots dating back more than 200 years, the Regatta is a proud Newfoundland and Labrador tradition. The day features exciting rowing races on Quidi Vidi Lake, along with family-friendly games, food vendors, entertainment, and community celebrations that draw thousands of spectators each year.

We wish everyone a safe, happy, and memorable Regatta Day!

We don't usually make posts like this, but I think transparency is important.

Here's what happened before the original post was deleted by its author in the "Parents Helping Parents" group.

The discussion began as what appeared to be a question from a concerned parent about the "Kids Friendly Activities" community group. As the conversation unfolded, it became clear that several of the people criticizing KidQuest and Jelly Bean, including the original anonymous poster, were actually local children's businesses commenting about our business.

Businesses are absolutely entitled to criticize us. We simply ask that they do it openly and transparently. When businesses are discussing another business in the same industry, we believe readers deserve to have that context.

In this thread, claims were made that Jelly Bean was "policing every post except their own" and that we were "up to our old tricks." Those statements are simply false. Every business, including Jelly Bean, follows the exact same posting guidelines. In fact, businesses that have publicly criticized us continue to have their events approved, provided they meet those guidelines.

The original anonymous poster later confirmed they were a local children's business. Shortly afterward, comments were removed and then the entire post was deleted.

For the record:
• KidQuest did join the Jelly Bean Entertainment family because we believed in what they're building for families across Canada.
• Every children's business is welcome to post in the group, including businesses that have publicly criticized us. We still feel that parents should know every activity.
• The Kids Friendly group was monetized before we took it over and businesses paid to be auto approved and pinned. We removed that and declined all offers of monetization to make it equal for everyone.
• The posting guidelines apply equally to everyone, including Jelly Bean.
• One of those guidelines is that event posts include a price. We believe parents should know what an activity costs without having to click through to another website or begin the checkout process just to find out.
• We created a free website and incoming app to help parents find local activities and to help businesses get discovered.

We have spent years investing in this community and supporting local families and businesses. We aren't interested in online feuds with other businesses. We'd much rather spend our time building great experiences for kids and giving every organization a free platform to reach parents.

The facts matter, and so does transparency.
