Four years ago I did my FIRST EVER pop up at Posie Row just outside of The Art Store and Yellow Rose!
I lived in Vancouver for 7 years before returning home. I came home for many reasons but was only supposed to visit. SIX months later, in the midst of covid, I decided to stay for good.
I began making art again, I felt inspired by my home province, and my mom and I started knitting again together.
When things started opening up again I got a job at The Art Store which was located on the second floor at Posie Row. It was part time and minimum wage, a far cry from my 6 days a week on salary managing an optical store in Vancouver, but I absolutely adored it.
The Art Store and working alongside Anna and all the girls at Posie breathed new life back into my creativity and Anna gave me the space and confidence to just go for it. I had support from family and friends that said they loved my work and I should have been selling it all these years.
For those that don’t know, I have been drawing and painting my whole life. I absolutely love it. It brings me peace and I really always said I wanted to be an artist when I grew up.
I’ve gone through different phases in life, many courses and all types of classes etc… but painting and making things has just always been my passion.
I’m so happy to be where I am today. Given opportunities to sell my work at markets, display my work in local coffee shops, host events and art shows, and submit work for grants (which I haven’t received any but it sure does keep you humble because there are SO many talented artists in this province that deserve it and work hard for it!).
Anyway, that’s my little story. I’m feeling VERY grateful to be able to share my art with you all. I love seeing photos you send me of my work hanging on your walls, or sitting on your desks holding your precious jewelry. It means the world to me. Sometimes my art brings back memories for people and I love hearing their stories while also telling mine through my work.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you! Thanks for all the support along the way, all the likes and shares on social media and all the love you all have given me and my work. I appreciate it.
I have a market this Sunday Nov. 30th at Quidi Vidi Brewery from 12-5. If you can make it there it would be a pleasure to see your faces!
Much love,
Sam
