Lawnya Vawnya is accepting applications for LAWNYA VAWNYA 17!!

Lawnya Vawnya is a non-profit music & art festival produced each spring in downtown St. John’s, NL. The 17th instalment of the festival will be held June 9-12th, 2027.

We are now accepting submissions from musicians, artists, and writers.

Submission Deadline: September 13th, 2026
(No extensions!!!! Don’t forget!!!)

While some of our programming is curated, the majority of our artists come from the submission process.

QUEST Radio: Pretty Privilege

Pretty Privilege is a Montreal-based DJ and founder of microrave, a party series that highlights FLINTA* talent. She is also a resident of LATEX, the city's legendary kink rave. Turning out packed dance floors from Warsaw to Seattle, her sets employ a signature blend of prog, sweaty 90s house, and cheeky, vocal-studded electro. She is stopping by Quest Radio ahead of her Newfoundland debut with St. John's darlings Nancy Music at the Station Lounge on July 31.

Today we are so happy to welcome Skye Wallace into the LV Studio as our second Self-Directed Artist in Residence!

skye wallace’s residency is running from July 22nd - 29th, 2026.

A voice like a commanding instrument, unflinching lyricism, and a swaggering live show shaped by years on the road: Skye Wallace has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most compelling artists. Her blend of folk, rock, and alternative influences has won critical acclaim, a devoted fan base, and stages shared with the likes of Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Matt Mays, Television, and more.

The Act of Living marks Wallace’s latest artistic evolution, offering an exploration of life’s most profound experiences. Produced alongside Hawksley Workman and released on Tiny Kingdom, The Act of Living finds Skye fully embracing the grungy, unbridled enthusiasm of her and her band’s live performances, inviting listeners on a journey of near-death experiences, dreamworlds, loss, + rebirth.

Skye will be working for a week in our new studio, creating acoustic versions of their new record produced by Matt Mays set to release next year, while also focussing on new works as both demos and potentially final tracking, as Skye’s next project will be stripped down, acoustic, and entirely self-produced.

Lawnya Vawnya Get Out Of Town Concert Series presents:

Hannah Green & R Sheaves at Port Rexton Brewing!

Friday August 14th starting at 7pm - FREE !!

Hannah Green is an alternative singer-songwriter known for blending folk, indie, and ambient elements to craft a captivating, atmospheric sound. Having toured internationally—Green has built a reputation for immersive performances rooted in emotional honesty.
Her debut full-length album, Moving Fast In Slow Motion (2024), produced by drummer and producer Nick Coultas-Clarke, delves into complex themes of love, loss, and the bittersweet transition from childhood to adulthood. The album’s emotive depth and unique style earned her dual nominations for MusicNL’s Alternative Artist of the Year and Rising Star of the Year, as well as a 2025 nomination for Folk Artist of the Year. Green is currently working on her next project, continuing to refine her sound and explore new creative directions.

R Sheaves is an alt-folk project led by composer Robert Humber. Their music has been described as “deeply personal yet universally resonant.” (Independent Spirits) Their debut album, 2025’s “MARY SPINS,” was nominated for 3 MusicNL awards, including “Songwriter of the Year.” As a duo with violinist Jessica Pereversoff, R Sheaves recently returned from their first Canadian tour. Their sophomore album is due out in early 2027.

Natalie Zina Walschots is a writer and game designer. She is the author of HENCH — and the direct sequel, VILLAIN. HENCH was a finalist on the 2021 season of Canada Reads and was nominated for a Locus Award for Best First Novel. Natalie is the Narrative Director at Double Rex Studios. Her work also includes LARP scripts, heavy metal music journalism, video game story bibles, and weirder things classified as “interactive experiences.”. She lives in Nova Scotia with her partner and four morally bankrupt cats.

Lawnya Vawnya Get Out Of Town Concert Series presents:

Swee at Two Whales Coffee Shop!

Sunday August 16th - Open Decks 2pm-3pm, Swee 3pm-5pm - FREE !!

Swee, a Chinese expat based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has carved a niche for himself in Halifax and Toronto music scene. As a DJ, record shop owner, and promoter of the underground dance music event in Halifax “Rhythm & Colour,” he consistently attracts hundreds of attendees, showcasing his unique taste and passion for music. His shop, Swee Records, is recognized in the crate-digging community as a treasure trove of exceptional finds. Recently, the shop underwent a transformation and reopened as ROOMS COFFEE | LISTEN, a Japanese Jazz Kissa-inspired Hi-Fi listening coffee shop that has quickly become a beloved spot for Halifax’s music and coffee enthusiasts.

Swee’s DJ sets are a vibrant tapestry of influences, seamlessly blending rare groove and underground dance music, reflecting his extensive and eclectic musical journey.

& OPEN DECKS:
A section of the event during which audience members are invited to the DJ booth to play songs of their choosing utilizing the equipment with guidance of the performer. No experience required.
Participants are encouraged to bring a USB with their selections, however, a preloaded LV USB will also be available.

Lawnya Vawnya Presents: DARE-U (Demos and Recording Enrichment Unlimited) SESSION 4

Welcome to the summer edition of Demos and Recording Enrichment Unlimited (Dare-U). Participants are invited to register for a FREE, engineered 1-2 hour studio sessions hosted by local recording engineers. Sessions are on a first come first serve basis.

A “live off the floor” approach is encouraged for these sessions, and participants are encouraged to come well-rehearsed for the session. Backline is provided (2x guitar amps, bass amp, drum kit).

Aug 3rd, 4th, 11th, and 12th, 2026
