I’ve spent waaaay too long away from my paints, digital art has taken over the last little while.

Happy to have taken a walk in the woods up to a viewpoint with today to sit and get creative outside

What's your biggest struggle as an artist?

Maybe it's just getting started, or not knowing what to create. Or maybe its that dang water control!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mine used to be water control and colour mixing! But I'm super happy to have made the mileage to move through that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, I still sometimes get hung up on getting my paintings to look like they do in my head, and embracing what my style is developing into. Which is constantly evolving.

I also have struggled with consistency, tho I know a lot of that has been health related and *fingers crossed*
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

These kinds of trips are so cup filling, soul satisfying, and overflowing with Muse. I feel another collection coming on...even though temps are heating up, I'm not quite done with winter yet. Ya with me? Or are you ready to shift?

Ahhhhhh I have soooooo many fav things, so here are my top picks! Here are a few of my go-to's.

I absolutely adore butcher trays - I love the large mixing area so I can really see how diluted my paint is, this helps me with my water control , colour mixing & glazing ALOT.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PAPER is hella important to me. I love the Legion Stonehenge Cold Press, and prefer the large sheets as they are most cost effective AND I can rip the edges to create that rough deckled edge look to my artwork.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I LOVE Princeton Brushes, Neptune, Heritage & Aqua Elite. I can't say enough good things about them. They are all synthetic (very important to me ethically), and each has their own stiffness providing a different tool for different desired results. Best brushes out there, bar none.

BIG FAN of Daniel Smith watercolour pigments, but there are so many smaller companies I want to try out - like Indigenous owned Beam Paints! (they are also plastic free!)

I also have heaps of foam boards that I tape my paintings onto, they are super cheap and you can find them at the dollar store ;)

I took a long break over the holidays and dug into a bit of what I want to experiment with creatively this year - Lighting is high on my priority list.

So I downloaded sunlit forest e-book and dug into that, super helpful :) I'm learning to communicate beautiful lighting through colour value & temperature, as well as composition. So this is my Day 3 / WIP

I am working on figuring out how to translate this to my own work to display a beautifully sunset lit snowy landscape scenes with pinks & blues & purples, stay tuned for more WIP's coming soon!

It's the new year and I'm hopping into with - todays prompt is Favourite Painting!

"Happily lost in the weeds" has always been a favourite of mine. I created it on the back side of a failed painting experimenting with negative painting technique and using colour temperature to communicate depth, shown to me by .m.bucciarelli
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It turned out WAAAY better than I could have imagined and inspired many other underwater kelp paintings in this style as part of my Coastal Nostalgia Collection released in June '22.

Lucky for me I have chosen to keep the original due to the back being painted, (and I really do love this painting), but prints are available in my shop :)
