Before the rains begin, cutting Pastel Yarrow to dry for medicine and tea and because, foolishly lifted too heavy a load and pulled some muscles, indulging in a lovely Valerian, Lemon Balm, Herb Robert and Comfrey warm footbath before heading out for a Heidi Scott, Registered Massage Therapist treatment.
I'll be right as rain in no time! Enjoy the day!

Haskaps (honeyberries) for breakfast this morn from the Edible Forest Gardening coffee ramble. All 5 shrubs are 3 years old and putting out masses of sweet tangy berries. Haskap has long been known by the ancient Japanese as, โ€œThe fruit of Life longevity and Fruit of visionโ€ so I'm more than thrilled to eat handfuls of them with my morning coffee and ... see what happens. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Another permaculture gift from Edible Forest Gardening providing nutrition and as much Vitamin A as asparagus and more protein and Vitamin C than green beans or asparagus.

Perennial Sweet Cicely an aromatic herb, with the flavour of aniseed, is also a sugar substitute. It is wonderful in making aperitifs and experimenting with recipes that are both delicious and also support the digestive system. After flowering the young green seedpods are a tasty quick garden treat with a burst of licorice in each bite. The rigid hollow stalks are also fun to use as drinking straws to compliment and add a sweet twist to summer drinks.

And that's a wrap for the Spring Edible Forest Garden Design Workshop series. Wonderful to welcome so many new enthusiasts to Edible Forest Gardening over the past weeks. Mother's Day afternoon proved the perfect time to share a diverse selection of spring edibles, a cup of delicious Sumac Cedar Tea and a taste of Lemon Balm Mead to toast all the new garden designs. :) I think it's unanimous that a Mead Making Workshop should be the next workshop series....maybe Father's Day Weekend?!! Cheers!

Today doing my bit to reduce the 'dreaded invasive' Garlic Mustard. Here in my Edible Forest Gardening, it may have been gifted by the wind or the wee ones, or I missed a root or two last season, anyway, I keep a close eye for signs of it each Spring...because it is absolutely delicious! I will use a few of the young leaves in today's salad. The remainder are destined for the Edible Forest Garden Pantry and will be whirled into a tasty pesto, a cider vinaigrette, some leaves dried and the roots chopped and processed into a delicious horseradish substitute. Even the seeds can be saved and used to season foods. Wouldn't it be great if this freely foraged invasive, which we are working to control, was put to use in a creative 'social purpose' enterprise rather than just destroying it and bagging it as garbage. Just saying...๐Ÿ˜‰

So....I had a wonderful visit on this perfectly beautiful day with Jacynthe Whaley at Groulx Acres - Quality Meats, Produce & Livestock. Now, this evening picturing the hardy grapevines I purchased growing up, over and smothering this arbour with delicious fruit and leaves while the twinkle lights shine through. Another guild addition at Edible Forest Gardening on the edge of Algonquin. ๐Ÿ’–
