Over the past two days, I have received a significant number of comments and private messages regarding my appearance. While public life invites discussion and differing opinions, it should never open the door to cruelty or personal attacks.
I want to be clear: I am not ashamed of the skin I’m in, and I hope no one else feels they should be.
Each of us is unique. Too often, we spend energy trying to measure ourselves against standards that are constantly shifting and, frankly, unrealistic. For transparency, I do have an eye condition. It is something that will not change, and like many people, I’ve learned how to navigate it in my own way. I am also a curvy woman. I am, like all of us, perfectly imperfect.
I believe deeply in respectful dialogue. Differences in opinion are essential in any healthy community. However, there is a clear line between respectful disagreement and comments that are intended to harm. That line matters.
