With heavy hearts, we are letting our community know that the Haida Heritage Centre Anniversary Celebration, originally planned for August 22, has been postponed until further notice.

In light of the recent and heartbreaking loss in our community, we recognize that many families, friends, and community members are grieving. Out of respect for the family, and the community of Skidegate, it simply does not feel like the right time to gather in celebration.

We had been truly looking forward to coming together to celebrate another year of the Haida Heritage Centre—our shared history, culture, partnerships, and community. But part of being good neighbours, friends, and community members is also knowing when it is time to stand together in grief, honour those we have lost.

To everyone who had offered their time, talents, food, performances, activities, and support to make this day special, Haawa. We are incredibly grateful for your understanding and for your willingness to celebrate alongside us.

When the time feels right, we look forward to finding a new date and coming together in the spirit this celebration deserves.

For now, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, their loved ones, and the entire community of Skidegate.

Haawa for your understanding, kindness, and continued support.

The Haida Heritage Centre is the vision of our Elders brought to life — a place where ancient heritage continues through our people, our community, and our islands.

Nestled along the shores of Kaay Llnagaay, the Centre is home to Gyaa K’id Naay
Carving House, where master carvers and apprentices work side by side, carrying forward traditions that have shaped Haida culture for generations. The sound of the tides, the scent of fresh cedar shavings, and the stories held within these walls create a feeling of connection to a time long ago, while reminding us that Haida culture remains strong and living today.

Whether you're exploring the museum, watching carvers at work, or simply taking in the beauty of the surrounding landscape, the Haida Heritage Centre is a place to slow down, learn, and experience the living culture of Haida Gwaii.

Make the Haida Heritage Centre part of your next bucket-list adventure.
