since i was small my brothers and i have learned haida from my mom and nanaay, lots of body parts and slang and expressions. once in high school my language skills really flourished from learning so many different nouns and verbs from sGaana jaads k’yaaga Xiigangs - she would build sentences based on student activity in the classroom which some i still remember today - 13+ years later. after graduating high school i took many beginner language classes to stay active in learning and have tried to be creative with how i learned language during my mentorship with daall jaad in university. this is a fun way for me to do it solo tho!

if you didn’t know, i’m now a language teacher at the high school here on the south end of haida gwaii. making these outfit checks in Xaayda kil is a way for me to practice language outside of teaching. slowly i’ll build more vocabulary and sentences into the fit checks but for now i’m starting simple n small 😇

i’ll eventually come up with a name for this series of mashing up two of my passions: fashion and Xaayda kil ✨
