Let’s turn “Dirt” To “Dishes”!

This mug started as a lump of clay.

A few weeks, many steps, and a WHOLE LOTTA WAITING…..and then it’s ready for its new home. 😅

Today’s Talk Tuesday follows the journey from clay to shelf.

Some glaze combinations just work.

The matte bluestone reminds me of a beach stone tucked into my pocket after a walk along the shore.

It’s still warm from the sun, and later when I find it in my pocket, I’m reminded of the beautiful blue ocean where I found it.

Earth and fire in a mug. ❤️

July’s Botanical Platter Class 🌿

Whether your garden is overflowing or you only have a few plants nearby, you can absolutely take part in this class.

Bring whatever catches your eye from your yard, a roadside walk, your cottage, or even your mom’s garden. Leaves, herbs, flowers, grasses, and ferns all create unique textures in clay. They don’t even have to look great to make a really great impression in the clay. My example here was made with different plants left over in my garden in the winter time and it still makes a great looking platter!

Join me this July to create a beautiful oval serving platter complete with handles and decorated with impressions from nature.

And if you’re not sure what to bring, don’t worry. I’ll have a selection of botanicals available to share from my own garden.

All the details and registration can be found at www.dirttodishes.ca.

July’s handbuilding class is now live on the website!
This one is going to be so much fun and perfect for summer!
We’ll be creating beautiful botanical serving trays using leaves, grasses, ferns, flowers, seed heads, and other treasures gathered from nature. Bring your own botanicals from your garden, a walk in the woods, the roadside, or anywhere else that catches your eye. You might be surprised by the textures that even the most ordinary plants can create in clay. and then we will add handles to complete the look.
I especially love the idea of bringing a few clippings from your mom’s or grandmother’s garden and preserving them in a handmade piece that could become a meaningful Christmas gift later this year.
Every tray will be completely unique, and no pottery experience is needed. Just bring your botanicals and we’ll do the rest!
Registration is now open at www.dirttodishes.ca

What’s on the Shelf Wednesday!

These pinch pot ice cream bowls were my prototypes for our June classes, and I have to admit, I’m a little smitten with them.

I love the wavy rims, the handmade feel, and especially that soft pink glaze. No two are exactly alike, which seems fitting for bowls that started with nothing more than a ball of clay and a pair of hands.

Now all they need is a scoop (or two) of ice cream.

Available in the barn while they last. 😋

Let’s hear from the proud Canadians out there! 🇨🇦

These are great days to be proud Canadians - we’ve got our Canada Day coming up in a couple of weeks and these garden stakes and ornaments are a fabulous way to display our pride now and all summer - in your gardens and planters all season long.

The ornaments make a fun addition to a tree, wreath, gift bag, or year-round display, while the larger stakes look right at home tucked into flower pots, planters, or garden beds.

I’ll be in the barn from Tuesday to Sunday from 10-4 but you can message me to save one for ya. 😉

One of my favourite sounds this time of year is waking up in the morning and hearing the birds outside. After a long winter, those cheerful little songs feel like a promise that warmer days are finally here. 🤞🏻🙏🏻

These handmade suet bird feeders are ready to welcome your feathered friends, and they come in a variety of vibrant colours to brighten up your garden, deck, or favourite tree. They come with the suet so all you have to do is hang them up, and enjoy a front-row seat all the action.

Which colour would you choose? 🐦🌸
