Nhemamusasa North is a very special opportunity to gather together with fellow enthusiasts and immerse yourself in the music and culture of Zimbabwe. Ecovillage near Shawnigan Lake, just north of Victoria. There we will gather in community to share in the musical and cultural traditions of the people of Zimbabwe. Nhemamusasa North offers daily workshops in marimba, mbira, hosho, dance, drumming and singing at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Happy to have Lachlan Fletcher joining us at Nhema North next month! As well as teaching mbira songs, he'll be offering sessions on playing together and combining parts. He'll also be keeping office hours in his mbira workshop - stop in for tuning/maintenance tips, or bring that mbira that's in need of a fix!

We are happy to report that the force of nature that is Othnell Moyo has received his visa and will be joining us at Nhemamusasa North next month!

Othnell 'Mangoma' Moyo is a Zimbabwean performing artist, instrument builder, ethnomusicological researcher, cultural preservation activist, and international cultural ambassador whose work champions the vitality and continuity of indigenous African music and arts. Widely known as "Mangoma", a name meaning “the one with the drums” he grew up in Makokoba’s Nguboyenja township (Bulawayo), immersed in mbira, marimba, percussion, dance, storytelling, and cultural memory.

Also, a reminder that the deadline to receive the early registration discount is next Saturday, June 20th. Come for a day, or come for a few. All levels welcome, beginner to advanced.
