Across the prairies of Saskatchewan, a new initiative is gathering dancers to support ongoing work on the ground in Ukraine.
On 12 September, three instructors from the Ukrainian dance community lead a full-day workshop at the Boyan Ukrainian Dance Studio in Saskatoon, Canada. The sessions will cover six regional styles of Ukrainian dance, focusing on technique and traditional movement:
• Vitali Sorokotiaguine - Poltava & Volyn styles
• Serhij Koroliuk - Polissian & Bukovyna styles
• Maksym Zabutnyy - Halychyna & Zakarpattia styles
Alongside the masterclasses, the neighbouring studio space will feature an Open Studio with Lana Niland from Ukraine , as well as a dedicated space for rest managed by Dr. Kristen Dudeck and The Dance Apothecary.
Lunch is provided on-site by the Wild Pies Food Truck, with meal options selected during registration.
With so many dancers associated with Patriot, this workshop marks the start of the Frontline Dance Collective - an effort to connect dance communities internationally with practical relief efforts in Ukraine.
All proceeds from registration fees and donations go directly toward Ukrainian Patriot’s ground operations, including humanitarian shipments, medical supplies, and local resilience sessions for children living near the front line.
