Gustin House

Gustin House Music and the arts! Annual concert series featuring international and local artists. Join us!

The activity of Gustin House is inspired by the brilliant piano teacher Dr. Lyell Gustin (1895-1988), who moved from Quebec to Saskatchewan at age 17, already an award winning pianist. In his Saskatoon studio, he mentored and inspired hundreds of young musicians during his 70-year career. Today, a non-profit charity based in his restored home/studio continues his ideals: Gustin/Trounce Heritage Co

mmittee Inc. presents musical and cultural events, gives piano scholarships, and also maintains Gustin House, a Provincial Heritage Property.

Congratulations April!

Congratulations April!

In honour and appreciation of Garth Beckett, distinguished graduate of the Lyell Gustin Piano Studios, concert pianist and revered teacher, the L. J. Fournier Family of Prince Albert offers a scholarship of $1500 at the Saskatchewan Provincial Music Festival. The scholarship is open to piano students up to the age of 20 inclusive performing advanced piano repertoire, and is awarded to the performer who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, shows the most promise.
This year's winner of the Garth Beckett/Gustin House Senior Piano Scholarship is April Shi. Presenting on behalf of the Fournier Family is Dr. Gregory Schulte. Adjudicator for all piano competitions is Younggun Kim of Toronto.
Congratulations, April!

Thank you to the SRMTA and their Opus publication for this information and photos. Our Gustin Competition took place on Saturday, May 30th, 2026 at Emmanuel Anglican Church in Saskatoon.

Andrew Liu, a student of Janice Elliott-Denike of Regina, was awarded first place and the Gustin Trounce Committee scholarship for $500.00.

Gregory Schulte, an original member of the committee and a former Gustin pupil presented the award. ‘He mentioned some advice of Dr. Gustin: “Before you rest a piece after a performance, mend it”. This reinforced the adjudicator’s comments about how to maintain one’s repertoire.’

Second place and the $300.00 SRMTA Gustin Memorial Award was presented to Boaman Liu, a student of Bonnie Nicholson. Branch President, Lynn Ewing, presented the Saskatoon Branch Gustin Memorial Award for $100.00 to April Shi, another student of Bonnie Nicholson.

Congrats!

Congrats!

Excited to receive our ECMA Classical Release of the Year🏆! We unfortunately missed the celebration last weekend, but that doesn’t diminish the honour of receiving this recognition for our Maier Franck Schumann recording on Delphian Records! Thank you East Coast Music Association (ECMA).

This album wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador.

We are also so grateful excellent team at Delphian who helped us sound our best!
