Set in rural Suffolk, England in 1759. As the country awaits Halley’s Comet, Sally Poppy is sentenced to hang for the heinous murder of a wealthy young girl. When she claims to be pregnant, a jury of 12 matrons are taken from their housework to determine, in less than an hour, whether Sally is telling the truth or simply trying to escape the noose. With an angry mob baying for blood outside, the matrons wrestle with their new authority, and the devil in their midst.

Introducing Ferre Play Theatre's Femme Directors Panel!

Over 3 sessions in March, we invite the femme and non binary community with an interest in directing to join us either in person or on Zoom for a panel discussion. No previous experience necessary, just a desire to learn.

We are bringing together six directors and artistic leaders from across the country to share their approach and answer your questions. The panel conversation will be approximately 75 minutes, and will be followed by a 45 minute Q and A.

We at Ferre Play Theatre have been doing a lot of thinking—about who we are, where we’re going, and how we can better serve our community. Now, we want to hear from you.

We’ve created a short survey for femme artists and community members across the province. It’s open until May 1st, and your responses will directly shape the future of our work and our community engagement.

We’re also accepting script submissions until May 16th. If you’re a femme-identifying playwright with a script to share that centres femme characters and stories, we’d love to read it! We will be choosing one play for further development in the fall of 2025.
