The vast majority of the wigs worn by the characters at The Enchanted Garden Character Co. are styled and maintained by us!
With well over 20 characters, and some having multiple styles (Elsa, Anna, Belle, etc.), it makes for a lot of behind the scenes maintenance.
Do all the characters wear wigs?
Yes! To get that true fairytale look, wigs are absolutely necessary. The wig bases are often more than 200% density of real human hair, which makes all these elaborate styles possible! Try getting Ariel’s gravity-defying bangs from normal human hair - it would be quite the feat.
How often do you have to restyle the wigs?
It honestly depends. Characters with updos like Cinderella can go several wears without a full restyle - just a few touch ups in between. This is because there is no rubbing on clothes or tangling.
Characters like Ariel require light brushing before almost every wear. And Elsa has her own challenges. Those sequins get caught in the braid ALL. THE. TIME. She needs a re-braid every couple of wears.
How long does it take to style a wig?
Well if you’re doing a complete wash and restyle it can take a day or two by the time it dries, etc.
if you’re just taking down the style and redoing, likely a couple of hours.
And a very light touch up of flyaways and a few tangles takes about 15 minutes.
Where did you learn to style wigs?
Nearly 12 years of trial and error, online classes, and hands on self taught experience! It’s really something that you can only learn by doing over and over again!
Has a wig ever made you cry?
Yes. It was me against a matted Rapunzel wig. After 2 days I gave up and bought a new base 😂.
