Thank you to everyone who joined us last week to kick off the 2026 Q***rmunity Theatre Festival with our one-night-only play reading of Witch by Jen Silverman!

The incorporation of a play reading into the Festival provides an opportunity for local artists and audiences to discover, experiment with, and explore works from the Q***r theatre canon, and to engage in important dialogues and discourses together.

As a play, Witch asks big questions about the impact of our choices, what they cost us, about hope, and the lack thereof, and about how we can save ourselves and a world that is ever-increasingly divided and hostile - or whether we even should. Thank you to our incredible team of artists for sharing their talents and their time to make this reading possible, and to everyone who came out to support. Everyone left with lots to think about.

Last but certainly not least, introducing the final team participating in the fifth annual 48-Hour Q***rmunity Theatre Race: The Chokecherries!

Nissan Gordon (they/them): Lifelong writer and performer Nissan is a homegrown talent who’s making their return to Q***rmunity for the 5th year in a row. Nissan is a multi-disciplinary artist with a penchant for comedy and a love of making things that get you right in the feels. Whether it’s stand-up, film, or the stage this creator is always working right from the heart.

Felix Friesen (he/him): Felix is a vocal teacher with Saskatoon Academy of Music. He is also the resident songwriter of The Chokecherries, and a now-five time Q***rmunity performer. He is a lifelong actor, singer, and creator of chaotic nonsense, and thrilled to be back on the BackStage Stage, performing for you all again.

Introducing the next team participating in the fifth annual 48-Hour Q***rmunity Theatre Race: Missed Opportunities!

Cadence (she/her) is a resident Q***rmunity performer and Taskmaster New Zealand’s biggest fan. She’s an alumni of the grade 11 special programs Media School and Outdoor School, a camp counselor in the summers, and is currently finishing her senior year at Aden Bowman Collegiate. Next year, she plans to study elementary education at the University of Saskatchewan! Credits include: Lizzie in Tilda Swinton Betrayed Us (Persephone Theatre Young Company 2026), Nothing Else to do in Chicowgo (Q***rmunity 2025), The Other L-Word (Q***rmunity 2024), and Homosexual Meleagris (Q***rmunity 2023).

Ryin (she/her) is the president of David Corenswet’s fan club. She’s not a fan of drama class, but she loves the art of theatre so she’s excited for this challenge! She is in grade 12 at Aden Bowman Collegiate. She likes Superman, Garfield, drawing, painting, and playing video games. She also has 7 pets!

Cam (he/him) is a young actor and singer. Currently, he is finishing his senior year at Aden Bowman. Last year, he co-directed a short film through Media School. He plans on pursuing any and all types of art once he graduates! Selected Credits include: Orson in Dungeness (Persephone Theatre Young Company 2026), Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice Jr. (Persephone Theatre School 2025), ensemble in The Wild Hearts Society of Reasonably Aged People (Evan Hardy 2025), and Typical Tokens with Nothing of Note (Q***rmunity 2024 and 2025).

Mya (she/her) is 18 and a senior at Aden Bowman Collegiate. She attended media school, where she did some acting, directing, writing scripts, and camera work. She believes she is ready to take on the world! Before COVID, Mya used to do acting classes at Persephone. She is an ambitious, confident, q***r woman who is ready to be the star of the show.

KyLynna (she/they) is a singer and drama class actor. After the Grammy awards declined her application to present the ‘KyLynna Award’ she joined Media School (Evan Hardy) and was happily presented with the aforementioned title. After her big break, she ran away to Outdoor School (Walter Murray). KyLynna loves music, performing, cats, travel, and (found) family. She is currently a hostess while finishing her high school career at Aden Bowman Collegiate. After high school, she plans on getting either an education degree or a jazz degree of some sort.

On Friday, May 22, Persephone Theatre's staff and board came together to celebrate and send off outgoing Executive Director Breanne Harmon on her final day with us.

Breanne joined Persephone Theatre in September of 2022 and since then, she has helped to steer the organization through the aftermath of pandemic uncertainty, played a key role in advancing a major capital campaign to replace our roof, established a stabilization fund, championed accessibility improvements and renovations, and advocated tirelessly both locally and nationally for theatre and the arts, including receiving an appointment to the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) board of directors as co-chair of their advocacy committee.

Along with these formidable accomplishments, Breanne also became a great leader, dependable colleague, respected mentor, and cherished friend to many of us here in Saskatoon. Breanne, the positive impact you have made on Persephone Theatre, and on Saskatoon's theatre community as a whole, will be felt for years to come, and it's been a great privilege and joy to have known and worked alongside you.

Breanne is now off to Calgary to join the wonderful team at Vertigo Theatre, and as sad as we are to see her go, we cannot wait to see how the spark she brings will bolster another theatre organization!

Thank you Breanne, and we all wish you the best of luck as you take this next step!

“I’m not arguing for the end of the world – but then again, maybe I am”

A charming devil arrives in the quiet village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town, but her soul is not so readily bought. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama, this sharp, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by.

Introducing the next team participating in the fifth annual 48-Hour Q***rmunity Theatre Race: The Shenanigays!

From the mighty rez of Whitecap and fueled by the rebellious rush of the Red River, Max is nothing if not an amalgamation of family. A big part of that family stems from his roots at Gordon Tootoosis Nikānīwin Theatre, where he took his first big step into the business via the legendary Circle of Voices youth actor program. Without them, Max definitely would not be the actor he is today, and he could not recommend a theatre more.

Eviane is an artist who primarily focuses on animation and writing. Although musical theatre has been a major influence growing up, she wasn’t much of an actor herself; instead she opted to help with storytelling. Just starting to get into the world of acting, she continues to strive further towards becoming both a great play writer and actress.

Aaron (He/They) is a Q***rmunity veteran (…of two years), and he’s never been more ready. An Indigenous musician, artist, writer, and actor, he loves the act of entertaining and putting on a story more than anything else. He’s been watching. Lurking. Observing the goofs and gaffs. The horse and play. The Tom and his foolery. And now, he’s ready to show what he’s got. Powered by hope, love and a lot of ADHD medication, he hopes to make your world a little brighter.

Two sisters living in two different cities, one in Port Harcourt, Nigeria and the other in Saskatoon, Canada have big announcements to make to their parents about marriage and finding love. Introducing the first of our teams for the fifth annual 48-Hour Q***rmunity Theatre Race: Indecisive Idiots!

Amy Fletcher (he/him) is a 15 year old comical chatterbox. He can be found crafting or hanging out with friends. He loves to play, draw, and most importantly, perform!!! Amy is in grade 10 at Aden Bowman and is about to go into media school at Evan Hardy. He has participated in The Addams Family musical, the Little Women play as Amy (yes, very funny) and two years of one-act plays.

Drew (he/him) is a 15 year old who’s hobbies influence his drive for theatre, whether it’s writing a script, sewing a character’s outfit, or simply performing in the act itself. He has a toxic love/hate relationship with his sewing machine that makes dark romance writers envious and a love for older films that rivals nerds from the 90’s. He has attended many improv classes and has a future of being a media school student.

Finn (they/them) is a 15 year old blue hair and pronouns diva that has a passion for theatre so strong it could overpower their love for photography, painting, making silly films with friends, and cooking. They are a 10th grade student at Aden Bowman Collegiate and will be a part of Session 36 of Media School this upcoming fall. They hope to take their knowledge and love for theatre into teaching other people after high school.
