Saskatoon Summer Players

Saskatoon Summer Players Saskatoon Summer Players (SSP) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to creating high-quality musical theatre in the Saskatoon area

SSP began as a group of dedicated amateurs working out of Knox United Church who mounted their first production, “Oklahoma”, in 1964. SSP has presented one “main-stage” musical in late June/early July every year since then. This main stage show is now playing about 10 times at Persephone Theatre. SSP has produced a second smaller show in the fall and an irregular basis, and since 2003 has also pro

duced a series of reviews, the “Broadway Bash”, each February. SSP has always drawn on the considerable talents of amateur on-stage performers and off-stage volunteers from the community. All concerned have taken considerable pride in mounting shows of high quality and, often, of professional standard.

It's time to meet the company of Oliver!

Hazel Lapointe - Captain/Children’s Ensemble (Bridge Cast)
Elspeth McShane - Children’s Ensemble (Bridge Cast)

Hazel (she/her) loves acting, singing, and dancing. She is thrilled to be in Oliver!, which marks her 5th musical, but her first with Saskatoon Summer Players. She is Alice in Alice in Wonderland, was Charlie in W***y Wonka, had multiple roles in Finding Nemo (Sask Express studio), and was Young Anna in her school’s production of Frozen. Hazel is in Grade 6 and keeps busy with singing, piano, Ukrainian dance, and music theatre classes. Hazel loves painting, drawing, creating, and crafting. She enjoys family road trips that lead her to the beach to collect shells, and she adores the colour pink. Hazel can’t wait to perform on the big stage with her whole family this year and knows this will be her first of many SSP productions!

Elspeth (she/her) has loved performing since she hit the stage for her first dance recital at age 4. Now that she is 12, she continues to spend most of her time dancing, singing, and playing piano. Elspeth played the role of an angel in The Royal Winnipeg Ballet's 2025 production of The Nutcracker in Saskatoon and Regina. She made her Saskatoon Summer Players debut playing the part of Amaryllis in The Music Man. Elspeth is thrilled to be part of Oliver!

It's time to meet the company of Oliver!

Sarah Scharf - Clarinets

Born and raised on Treaty Six Territory in Saskatoon, SK, Sarah (she/her) is a seasoned local musician and music educator. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (B.Ed/B.Mus(Mus.Ed), 2006), Sarah performs regularly with Toon Town Big Band, Saskatoon Philharmonic Orchestra, and local legends The Whiskey Jerks. She can also be found, on occasion, performing with the Saskatoon Klezmer Band. This is her 10th or 11th show with Saskatoon Summer Players, having lost the exact count sometime after 9 to 5 (2022). When not on stage or in a pit orchestra, Sarah works for Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools as a middle years band teacher. She would like to take this moment to thank her parents, particularly her mother, for encouraging this talent for music as a child - not knowing that it would lead to years of delayed birthday dinners because of the love for musicals

It's time to meet the company of Oliver!

Naomi Fetter - Bet (Tower Cast)
Elsie Lapointe - Bet (Bridge Cast)

Naomi (she/her) is excited to play the role of Bet in Oliver!. This is her first year with the Saskatoon Summer Players but she’s been a part of several productions in Saskatoon and area. Her previous roles include Susan in 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse, Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland and Captain Hook in an original production called Hooked. She has also performed at Art in the Garden for the past two years, singing her original songs. Last year was her first year with Music for the Gut, performing at TCU Place. Her music skills extend to the violin, flute and clarinet.

Elsie (she/her) is delighted to be joining the cast of Oliver! this year. Elsie has previously appeared in Madagascar, Finding Nemo (Dory), and Anastasia with Sask Express. Her school productions include Moana (Moana), Lion King, and Frozen (Anna). She is currently in Something Rotten (Portia) with Sask Express and will be in Hadestown with Persephone’s Musical Academy in the summer. Elsie is in Grade 8 at a fine arts school, so she’s had lots of opportunities to learn new things about performance and music. Aside from school, Elsie is in Ukrainian dance classes, piano lessons, and vocal lessons which have given her the opportunity to sing in both the Saskatoon Music Festival and the Provincial Festival. She’s so excited to continue performing and looks forward to many more summers with SSP! Enjoy the show!

It's time to meet the company of Oliver!

Lake Roy - Oliver (Tower Cast)
Josephine Lapointe - Oliver (Bridge Cast)

Lake (he/him) is thrilled to be on stage with SSP this summer. It is his first time in a musical production and is very grateful and excited to be playing the role of Oliver. Since he could stand on his two feet, he has had a passion for music. He has been taking voice lessons under the instruction of Jordie Hughton vocal studios since the age of 5, which has helped shape the beautiful sound that he emanates. Lake can often be heard singing a song or humming a tune. In Lake’s “downtime” from the arts, he can be found on a soccer pitch or a LaCrosse field, playing video games with friends, his head in a book, or at the lake with his family. Lake hopes that everyone enjoys the show and leaves the theatre thinking “…I want some more.”

Jojo (she/her) is very excited to be in her first Saskatoon Summer Players musical and is happy to be sharing this amazing experience with her two older sisters and her parents. Jojo is 9 years old and is just finishing Grade 4. She first set foot on the stage earlier this year in her school’s Christmas musical and is playing The Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland (with her sister, Hazel), at Sask Express studios. Jojo takes voice, piano, and Ukrainian dance lessons and competes in vocal classes in the Saskatoon Music Festival. She loves biking, roller-skating, colouring, spending time outside, all things purple, and having fun with her friends. She is looking forward to a fun and relaxing summer but also can’t wait until her next performance opportunity!

It's time to meet the company of Oliver!

Brynlee Danielson - Handwalker/Children’s Ensemble (Bridge Cast)
Madeleine Stonhouse - Handwalker/Children’s Ensemble (Tower Cast)

Brynlee (she/her) is so excited to play Handwalker in the children’s ensemble for Oliver for her first time with Saskatoon Summer Players! She is 13 years old and is currently in 7th grade. Brynlee has been acting since she was 8, and has done a few musical theater dance classes. She has done many performances with SaskExpress, including Winnie the Pooh, Madagascar, Finding Nemo, W***y Wonka, and Alice in Wonderland. When she isn’t at school or acting, you can find her reading novels, singing, or hanging out with friends.

Madeleine (she/her) is a singer, actor, artist, and percussionist (piano and drums) in Saskatoon. This is her first Saskatoon Summer Players production, and she loves being part of the team. She loves designing art projects digitally and creating 3D artwork, and is only tepid about being an older sister. Her favourite activity, besides theatre, is sleeping.

It's time to meet the company of Oliver!

Arthur Cu***ng - Children’s Ensemble (Bridge Cast)
Luka Lasnier - Children’s Ensemble (Tower Cast)

This is Arthur’s (he/him) first musical ever. Arthur’s mom and dad (Erin and Blake) are also in the show; see if you can find their bios. During his free time, Arthur likes to do parkour, piano, and game. Thanks for spending your time and money to be here. Arthur, signing off!

Luka (he/him) is 10 years old and happiest when he's on stage. He's a proud Métis kid who simply loves to perform. His acting journey started with Troupe du jour, the French theatre group where he discovered how much he enjoys performing in his second language. Recently, he leveled up to Persephone Theatre's production of A Christmas Story, playing Flick—the unforgettable character who learns the hard way not to lick frozen flagpoles. These days, Luka is pretty stoked to be cast in the musical Oliver, where he finally gets to put his passion for impersonating different accents to good use. He's always messing around with new voices and dialects at home, so having a legitimate reason to do it on stage is basically a dream come true. Offstage, he's just a regular kid who happens to really love theatre. He's excited to see where this whole acting thing takes him next.

Rosalind Lo - Nipper/Children’s Ensemble (Bridge Cast)
Julian Martinez - Nipper/Children’s Ensemble (Tower Cast)

Rosalind (she/her) loves to perform! Rosalind is 8 years old and sings in the school choir, plays piano, takes tap dance and has performed with Persephone Theatre’s Camps including Disney’s Dare to Dream. When she is not on the stage, Ros can be found on the soccer pitch or hanging out with friends. This is Ros’ first performance with Saskatoon Summer Players and is thankful to the directors, cast, and crew for making this a thrilling experience.

Julian (he/him) fell in love with the performance arts through the Persephone theatre school and he continues to pursue his love for musicals, taking singing lessons at Jordie Hughton Vocal Studio. Julian is proud of his Mexican Heritage. He is a fluent Spanish speaker and loves to learn other languages. You may find Julian in any school play or in his basement doing one man shows! Julian is grateful for the opportunity to work and learn from all the talented members of this cast. Thanks mom, dad, and grandma for supporting Julian in all his adventures!
