We are currently looking for volunteers to help supervise and assist children with fun activities like origami, kendama, water calligraphy, colouring, crafts, and garapon 🎨

Celebrate Children’s Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no Hi) with the Saskatoon Japanese Association! 🎏

Join us on May 9, 2026 at Confederation Mall from 12pm to 4pm for a fun, free, family-friendly event inspired by Japan’s May 5 holiday.

Enjoy activities like:

🌸🎎Happy Hinamatsuri! 🎎🌸

Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day) is celebrated each year on March 3 in Japan. Families display ornamental hina dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, and members of the imperial court of the Japan’s Heian period. The tradition dates back over 1,000 years and is rooted in the belief that dolls could carry away bad luck and protect children. Today, Hinamatsuri is a day to wish for the health, happiness, and success of girls.

Traditional foods enjoyed on this day include chirashizushi (scattered sushi), hina-arare (sweet rice crackers), and hishimochi (layered rice cakes).

Today on March 3rd, the SJA wishes health, happiness, and a bright future for all girls.
