Here is a mom and baby giraffe portrait that I completed recently at a live Drawalong (Coloured Pencil week 2026) with Snowdon Academy.
It was a sweet image to draw, but I'm not a big fan of the paper I used, as it takes a LOT of hard pressure to get good colour intensity and smoothness. I have a light touch, and prefer surfaces that take a gentle hand!

'Sakura on Black' is finished! 😍 We can embrace spring with these beautiful cherry blossoms.

I learned a lot from Helen (yet again!) about how to create bright colours on Fabriano Black Black paper. I love the high contrast, dramatic look with this paper.

More progress on my 'Sakura on Black' drawing of cherry blossoms!😍

This is a painstaking process of mostly layering various intensities of white pencil as an underlayer, then glazing the colours on top.

Yesterday Bonny Snowdon Academy taught a live 2- hour online Meerkat drawalong on YouTube.
I confess that I did fiddle with it for another hour or so after the class...but it was meant to just be a fun, quick sketching experience. And it was! 😀
Meerkats are a small carnivore from the mongoose family, native to southern Africa, and weigh about 2 lbs.The dark patches around their eyes help to reduce sun glare. They exhibit this upright, "sentinal" posture of guarding, while others in their "mob" search for food.
And I think this one is so cute!😍

My Deer portrait is all finished!😀 What a magnificent animal, with his combination of gentleness and power.

This was a great study of subtle colours of greys, blues and browns, and strong textures-- a great drawing experience!😍
