I am often asked how a bronze sculpture is created, well to be honest the process can be quite complicated and a bit confusing. In my case it begins with drawings or paintings of the subject from a live model, nature or photographs. The sculpture is then created in clay and from that finished piece a mould is made. Then a wax impression is made of the sculpture at which point some adjustments and clean up can be made. Then at the foundry another mould is made and using the lost wax method, it is cast in bronze. Once the bronze cast is complete, the final step at the foundry is to add a patina depending on what look I want to achieve. Often I like a patina that looks as if the bronze has aged over time. As I said, the process can be complicated but once finished you have a piece of art that will truly last many lifetimes as proven by bronze pieces found in good condition after being unearthed after centuries in the ground. A bronze is always a welcome addition in your home, but a larger piece can be placed on a plinth or a rock in the garden. Not only is it a nice landscape feature, it will be affected by the elements and add character to the patina as it ages.
