Very proud to write that the curator, Christopher James has designated my images as outstanding along with my fellow artists- he liked the plants have lives too ( featured on my website- susanhuber.com) and; the use of van d**e brown along with cyanotype processes to bring forth what happens to plants when preserved in long time with all their beauty. My thanks to rfotofolio.org for putting the Denis Roussel Award to feature these incredible images . **ebrown

Now that it spring but hard to see why it can be considered as it is very cold- I am enjoying the plants from the garden and here are my daffodils on Van D**e Brown process. This was exposed in the greenhouse over weeks. Every image done presents with an image that is a one off. I like that one cannot duplicate this over and over. I love the painterly effects from cameraless photography and from using plants. **ebrown

This is one of those moments travelling with a fellow photographer in Death Valley. This is Furnace Creek near the parking lot on a hot October day and I ran back to retrieve my camera instead of eating and hoped to catch the graphics of the palm trees. It was a magical light that moment.

Many grateful thanks to PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont for selecting my tulips on cyanotype coated onto muslin for the exhibit, ‘ Botanical’ curated by Lee Anne Smith to take place this month. There will be a gallery exhibit and online accompanied by a catalog. The other 35 participants are incredibly diverse also and I am happy to be amongst their company.

I wanted to showcase an image of Rails- this image is on the Snake River, Washington, USA. Platinum/ Palladium on watercolour paper from a large format negative of 8x10 inches contact printed ( direct film) onto paper. This is a hands on approach- no digital intervention. What is on the negative goes onto the paper. . Thanks to my friend, for introducing The Other Side to me, the lands where dam building and energy systems started in the scrublands and the resilient settlers who persevered to survive in this harsh climate.

Please please please support your local arts supplies store. You do not need to go to the big city or do online shopping. It is hella lot more fun to find obscure arts and here I am buying@stonehengelegion paper for coating and **ebrown light sensitive chemicals for my series of . Spending time with Esther, the owner, was so much fun discussing what I require in paper. Hot press, thicker gsm, colour but mostly the absorbency of paper and ability to withstand being processed in water. Do your part and connect with real humans trying their best to meet your needs. The store has relocated next to the Coast Guard office in Ganges.

Very happy and honoured to be selected amongst other fabulous artists on the exhibition by Analog Forever Magazine titled, ‘ A Certain Kind Of Blue.’ Featuring diverse images using the cyanotype process. Here is my dahlia that someone gave me for my birthday present last year. There are actual leaves on the watercolour paper that would not come off lol! The exhibition link is; https:/analogforevermagazine.com/ exhibitions/certain-kind-of-blue..

It was finally a good time to get back to work! I am in my darkroom and using a special brush coating the various watercolour papers and hoping my chemicals still work despite being refrigerated- the two areas shown here left to right are; Dry Falls in eastern Washington state, USA and the amazing Kinsol Trestle near Shawnigan Lake near Victoria, BC, Canada where I was introduced to this area by the wonderful photographer and friend, David Aharonian. His photographs are beautiful- davidaharonian.com. The two photographs are made from platinum/ palladium formulae devised by me for each film negative. Please write if you have an queries. I love to share these alternative photographic processes from the 19 th century with you! .she.makes

We are having a bit of snow during our Artic Snow Warning period for the entire province of BC. It isn’t very cold compared to the rest of Canada but; please stay off the roads and enjoy Valentine’s Day, BC Family Day and President’s Day this weekend and tomorrow. Have a wonderful time in connecting with your friends and family during challenging times! Wear a mask and your sunscreen as it is deceptively bright...all year.
See you all sometime!

Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day! Hope all enjoyed their time with family or being by yourself making art and getting outside. We had a recent snowstorm from a cold front. Snow adds a magical time to the PNW. Keep in touch and stay safe and healthy!

Wishing all the viewers around the world a time to reflect what has happened this year and; to remind ourselves that when routines are upended, it is time to seek new avenues. Experimentation as in the cameraless image on the left is actually a cyanotype of tulips exposed on muslin and the image on the right is Ford Cove from a large format negative ( 8x10) on platinum/ palladium number 1/10.
Please write in and let me know how people are during these strange times. Thank you for your support!

It is time to think of future events as in the biannual SSNAP- Salt Spring National Art to be held in Mahon Hall and ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island, BC in 2021. Here are some things I am working from a previous platinum/ palladium print of Red Rock Natural Coulee in Alberta and the next print is a long exposure of my garlic seed head on cyanotype and is cameraless. Both are contact prints, one from a negative and the other of a plant. Only in the summertime can you make long exposures in the sun...
