We’re honoured to welcome a true Canadian dance legend to Saint John.

Karen Kain’s career has taken her from the National Ballet of Canada to stages around the world, from celebrated performances to artistic leadership. Through ARC Academy’s partnership with First City School of Dance, we’re proud to bring that experience into the room with local dancers this November.

People often wait to see if someone's vision will work. Lisa and Tom Gribbons decided to help make it work.

With a gift of more than $100,000 to the Courthouse Stage, they're choosing to invest in what this city can become rather than wait on the sidelines.

It's not a new role for them. They've been steady presences in uptown's arts, culture, and restaurant scene for years, the kind of people who show up for the galleries, the shows, and the dinners that keep this neighbourhood alive.

Their gift will help create a walkable theatre and culture district, anchored by the historic courthouse. New life in long-quiet buildings, a café and w**e bar drawing people out in the evening, all adding to the energy making King Square and Uptown a destination for everyone in the community.

They aren't investing from a distance. Uptown has been their home for more than nine years, drawn by its energy, diversity, and convenience. It's a neighbourhood they love and want to share, and for Lisa and Tom, this gift is what commitment looks like: not talk, but action, building a future this city can grow into together.

We’re already missing Midsummer.

But we’re pretty excited about what happened behind the scenes! As part of Atlantic Repertory Company's ARC Academy, Tyler Warren Ellis teamed up with young filmmakers to turn A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Place Fort La Tour, into a film.

From framing the action through a camera lens, to piecing together the final footage, they experienced the many moving parts that go into recording live theatre.

Swipe through for a peek at the workshop in action!

Education is an important part of what we do.

Through 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘜𝘱, 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨, a group of young filmmakers are behind the scenes of A Midsummer Night's Dream, learning the techniques and teamwork involved in professional live theatre filmmaking, led by filmmaker and director Tyler Warren Ellis

We're proud to host opportunities that help emerging artists gain experience, build confidence, and create something they'll carry forward into future projects.

Professional actors deserve professional opportunities. Bertis Sutton gives his thoughts on how the Courthouse Stage will support the next generation of artists in New Brunswick.

“We’ve got a great big theatre and we’ve got some great little theatres, but there’s nothing in the mid-range — and that limits some of the projects we can undertake.”

Want to learn more about the Courthouse Stage? Visit us online, or reach out to [email protected] and speak to Zara, Director of Development.

Jack Keir was born and brought up in Saint John. When he talks about this city and what it’s becoming, he’s not speaking as an outside investor — he’s speaking as someone who has watched this place his whole life and believes it’s on the verge of something real.

“Look, this city is near and dear to me. We are on the cusp of great things in Saint John — and it starts with uptown Saint John and that Courthouse.”

Jack served as New Brunswick’s Minister of Energy and now chairs the board of Port Saint John. He was in the room in 2017 when Stephen Tobias first put his vision together for this building — and he helped get it done. He’s on this campaign cabinet for the same reason: because he believes in what uptown Saint John can become.
