Jack Keir was born and brought up in Saint John. When he talks about this city and what it’s becoming, he’s not speaking as an outside investor — he’s speaking as someone who has watched this place his whole life and believes it’s on the verge of something real.

“Look, this city is near and dear to me. We are on the cusp of great things in Saint John — and it starts with uptown Saint John and that Courthouse.”

Jack served as New Brunswick’s Minister of Energy and now chairs the board of Port Saint John. He was in the room in 2017 when Stephen Tobias first put his vision together for this building — and he helped get it done. He’s on this campaign cabinet for the same reason: because he believes in what uptown Saint John can become.

For one week every August, SJTC turns Saint John into a festival city.

2026 Fundy Fringe lineup is set — 15 shows, artists from across the country and beyond. Theatre that is truly unforgettable.

"The Fundy Fringe Festival creates a safe, professionally run space where artists like us can take risks, tell fun and interesting stories, and have enthusiastic audiences come along for the ride. The Fundy Fringe Festival is where creativity is welcomed, celebrated, and shared with the whole community." — Dewayne Keating, The "B" Team Productions

"[The Courthouse Stage] will not be a mausoleum or a mere edifice. It will be a vibrant living being — a hive of activity."

Dean Turner described his vision when he committed $100,000 to the Courthouse Stage.

For nineteen years Dean has been part of this company in almost every way you can be: on our stages as an actor, in the boardroom as a director, and now as a donor to the next chapter of what SJTC is building. He has watched this company grow from the inside, and now he is championing for the success of Possibility Unleashed!

Thank you, Dean. Thank you for believing in this project.

Shawn Wright was born in Saint John. To become a professional actor, he had to leave it.

Four decades later — after a career that took him from Los Angeles to Toronto to the Stratford Festival — he's home, on stage with the Atlantic Repertory Company.

In his words:

"I was born in Saint John but there was absolutely nowhere to do any training here as I grew up. I had to leave my beautiful hometown to do what I really loved. That would not have been the case had the Saint John Theatre Company existed in the 70s and 80s."

"I want to give back to this community what it couldn't give me as an aspiring actor — mentorship. And now, through the Saint John Theatre Company, I can help mentor the next generation of those with the passion for theatre that I had — and still have."

The Courthouse Stage is the next chapter of that story: a permanent home where the next Shawn Wright won't have to choose between their craft and their city.

Two hundred years of history. Four levels of possibility.

Your script is still in your bag. The coffee is still warm. Outside, King Square moves at its own pace — and for once, you don't have to.

A place to sit, breathe, and let the work settle. Where a student of the arts can spend an afternoon surrounded by people who take what they do seriously, in a building that takes them seriously too.

The Courthouse Stage will be home to a professional 250+ seat theatre, on-site rehearsal and production facilities, a masterclass studio, and a street-level café and bar open every day — not just on show nights.

A place to rest, refuel, and fall in love with theatre.
