The Saint John String Quartet took the opportunity to perform another concert at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre in Hampton, NB last month. Thank you to the staff and residents for being such a welcoming and attentive audience. Thanks also to the Saint John Community Arts Board for supporting our "Living Sound" program, which helps make it possible for us to engage in community outreach like this.

Le Saint John String Quartet a profité de l'occasion pour donner un nouveau concert au Dr. V.A. Snow Centre à Hampton, N.-B., le mois dernier. Merci au personnel et aux résidents d'avoir formé un public si accueillant et si attentif. Merci également au Conseil d'administration des arts de la communauté de Saint John pour son soutien; ça nous permet de mener à bien des actions de proximité comme celle-ci.

👏👏Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

After taking some time to recover and reflect, we would like to sincerely and enthusiastically thank you all for a tremendous season! From Hollywood to outer space, from joy to renewal & healing, it was our pleasure to take you on a journey exploring the power and the passion of symphonic music. We thank you, our fellow New Brunswickers, for supporting us in whatever capacity you can: attending concerts, donating, volunteering, engaging with us on social media, talking us up in your book clubs and coffee dates; the list is endless! Just know that we truly, sincerely appreciate you, and we look forward to having you join us again next season! Stay tuned – more info on that is coming soon!

Après avoir pris le temps de nous remettre et de réfléchir à cette saison qui vient de s'achever, nous tenons à vous remercier tous sincèrement et chaleureusement ! D'Hollywood à l'espace, de la joie au renouveau et à la réconciliation, ce fut un plaisir de vous emmener dans un voyage à la découverte de la puissance et de la passion de la musique symphonique. Nous vous remercions, chers Néo-Brunswickois, de nous soutenir de toutes les manières possibles : en assistant à nos concerts, en faisant des dons, en vous portant volontaires, en échangeant avec nous sur les réseaux sociaux, en parlant de nous dans vos clubs de lecture ou lors de vos rendez-vous autour d’un café ; la liste est infinie ! We consider it an immense honour and privilege to be joined by Elder Hubert Francis as part of "Life Circles" starting tomorrow. Elder Francis will be reciting the Mi'kmaw text of Rita Joe's "Poem 14", accompanied by Clair Debussy's "Clair de Lune".

Born and raised in Elsipogtog First Nation, Hubert is an international recording artist with his aboriginal rock band Eagle Feather. Hubert is a cast member of ‘DRUM!”, a Brookes Diamond Production based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is also a member of Alan Syliboy’s group, “Thundermakers”.

Hubert is sometimes described as a Goodwill Ambassador and has been educating and informing the general public about his culture through his aboriginal rock style music, fusing native chants with contemporary rock sounds! Hubert was recently awarded both the 2019 Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award by the ECMAs and the NSITEN Indigenous Tourism Lifetime Achievement Award.

Inuk Soprano Deantha Edmunds is among the most accomplished Canadian artists of our time, and we are so grateful to have her join us on stage for "Life Circles" next week, along with her daughter Annabelle Edmunds-Ramsay.

Deantha is a Member of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour, for her work which seeks to empower Indigenous people and share their stories. As a performer, composer, writer, and mentor, Deantha uses her voice to share about her journey as an artist and the issues that matter the most to her: the climate crisis, language revitalization, MMIWG2S+, Truth and Reconciliation, and the threads that connect us.

Deantha won the 2025 JUNO award for ‘Classical Composition of the Year’ for her original song-cycle Angmalukisaa which will be featured on our tour next week. Also in 2025, she was named “Indigenous Artist of the Year” at the East Coast Music Awards AND was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Music degree by Acadia University, celebrating her impact on Canadian culture and her achievements as an Indigenous classical musical artist.

Annabelle Edmunds-Ramsay is one of Atlantic Canada’s most promising young performing artists. She has performed as a soloist with diverse groups like Shallaway Youth Choir, Indigenous Performing Arts NL, Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, Lady Cove Choir, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and Opera on the Avalon. Annabelle was named the 2025 Junior Youth of the Year at the City of St. John’s Applause Awards.

La soprano inuite Deantha Edmunds compte parmi les artistes canadiennes les plus accomplies de notre époque, et nous sommes très heureux qu'elle se joigne à nous sur scène pour « Cercles de vie » la semaine prochaine, en compagnie de sa fille Annabelle Edmunds-Ramsay.

Deantha est membre de l’Ordre du Canada, la plus haute distinction civile du pays, en reconnaissance de son travail visant à donner une voix aux peuples autochtones et à faire rayonner leurs récits. Interprète, compositrice, autrice et mentore, Deantha met sa voix au service de son parcours artistique et des enjeux qui lui tiennent le plus à cœur : la crise climatique, la revitalisation des langues autochtones, les FFADA2E+, la vérité et la réconciliation, ainsi que les liens qui nous unissent.

Annabelle Edmunds-Ramsay, soprano de 15 ans, compte parmi les jeunes artistes de scène les plus prometteuses du Canada atlantique. Annabelle s’est produite comme soliste auprès de divers ensembles et compagnies, notamment la chorale Shallaway Youth Choir, le collectif Indigenous Performing Arts NL, la troupe Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, la chorale Lady Cove Choir, l’Orchestre symphonique de Terre-Neuve et Opera on the Avalon. La jeune soprano a été nommée « Jeune de l’année 2025 » aux prix Applause de la ville de St. John’s.

Edward Elgar wrote his “Enigma Variations” as fourteen musical portraits — each one a friend or loved one, captured in sound. The real riddle? A hidden melody Elgar claimed runs throughout the entire work, one no listener has ever conclusively identified. A century of musical detectives, and the secret holds!

At its emotional core sits "Variation IX, Ni**od": a tribute to his dearest friend, August Jaeger. It is, by any measure, one of the most emotionally profound passages in the orchestral canon.
