At this one-day basic broom-making class, you'll learn about the history of broomcorn and traditional methods of broom-making. The workshop will see you taking home a basic functional and decorative hearth-style besom, and a "turkey wing" whisk broom, perfect for using in small spaces, such as counters or work benches, or a table crumb sweeper. Note that this workshop does require some upper body strength.

In conjunction with the launch of the publication Notes for an Artist: The Narrative Paintings of Paul Mathieson, Saint John Arts Centre has organized a major retrospective exhibition of his paintings. Mathieson was awarded the Strathbutler in 2015 in recognition of his multi-faceted contributions to the cultural fabric of New Brunswick.

This exhibition showcases iconic works by an artist whose provocative images reflect contemporary life in our region, but more deeply illuminate universal concerns of the human condition.

The Narrative Paintings of Paul Mathieson: A 40-Year Retrospective will dominate the lower galleries at Saint John Arts Centre from September 4th through October 23rd.

SHMF extends its congratulations and deep regard for this important artistic voice.

À l’occasion du lancement de la publication Notes for an Artist: The Narrative Paintings of Paul Mathieson, le Saint John Arts Centre présente une importante exposition rétrospective consacrée à l’œuvre picturale de Paul Mathieson. Mathieson a reçu le prix Strathbutler en 2015 en reconnaissance de sa contribution exceptionnelle et multiforme au tissu culturel du Nouveau-Brunswick.

Cette exposition met en lumière des œuvres emblématiques d’un artiste dont les images provocantes témoignent de la vie contemporaine dans notre région, tout en révélant plus profondément des préoccupations universelles liées à la condition humaine.
