Meet Matt Currie & Ness Klohn at the 7th Annual Balance Festival!

Returning for their 4th consecutive year, Master Matt Currie and Instructor-in-Training Ness Klohn from Lonewolf Martial Arts bring an empowering, biomechanical approach to mindful movement.

At Lonewolf, movement is governed by a core maxim: Precision over Power. Qi Gong—often called the grandfather of Chinese medicine and the internal root of traditional martial arts—releases deep-seated physical tension and restores equilibrium to the nervous system. With over three decades of martial arts training and a quarter-century of experience instructing and performing, Matt, alongside Ness, guides participants through an accessible practice that balances the mind while teaching the body to move with effortless strength. By synchronizing your center of mass with gravity and breath, participants will discover that true, unified power is born from rotation and harmony.

The Weekend Lineup (1:00 PM Daily – Outside Tent):

Saturday: Kinetic Stillness & Somatic Sovereignty Learn the fundamentals of mindful breathwork, structural alignment, and core therapeutic postures. Discover how fluid, continuous movement calms internal stress while naturally establishing physical stability, grounding, and effortless boundary awareness. We will explore the biomechanics of kinetic boundary enforcement, proving that internal calm creates an unshakeable center capable of deflecting external stress without relying on tension.

Sunday: Dynamic Flow & the Biofeedback of the Taiji Fan Build upon your movement practice with the traditional mirrored sequence, expanding into the graceful, dynamic flow of Taiji fans. Used historically for spatial management, the fan acts as an auditory biofeedback tool—its crisp snap confirming exactly when your breath, alignment, and kinetic intention are perfectly synchronized. Participants will explore how circular, wave-like motions clear stagnant energy and create a powerful perimeter of personal protection. (Note: Fans will be provided for the duration of the workshop).

No mats, prior experience, or equipment are required—all movements can be modified for any comfort or mobility level. Stepping onto the path of internal cultivation requires the bravery to begin, and it only takes courage to begin.

Come move, breathe, and find your center at the lake!

Meet Shawna Fowler - a passionate yogi who has been immersed in the practice of Yin Yoga since 2017.

Shawna brings more than 250 hours of Yin Yoga training and 200 hours of Hatha, Vinyasa and restorative yoga training to her classes. In our fast-paced world, she believes it’s essential to take time to quiet the mind, connect with the breath and nourish the body’s deep connective tissues.

Join Shawna for a calming Yin Yoga practice featuring longer holds of approximately three minutes in seated and reclined positions, primarily focused on the lower body. This gentle practice reaches into the deeper layers of fascia while offering a peaceful retreat for the mind.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, Yin Yoga takes a functional approach that can be adapted for all levels. Come slow down, settle in and find a little more calm with Shawna.

Meet Patricia Muir, one of the wonderful teachers joining us for the 7th Annual Balance Yoga & Wellness Festival! Patricia will guide a gentle Hatha yoga class on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Participants will begin by connecting with their breath before easing into slow, mindful movement. The class will include a comprehensive warm-up followed by seated, standing and balancing postures, with modifications offered as needed. Patricia’s goal is for everyone to leave feeling more limber, refreshed and rejuvenated in both body and mind.

Patricia has been teaching yoga for more than nine years, but her own practice began in the late ’90s in her living room with yoga videos. She quickly fell in love with it and began attending a variety of classes to deepen her knowledge and experience its many benefits.

When an opportunity arose to complete Yoga Teacher Training at the Saint John YMCA, Patricia embraced it. After successfully completing the program, she began volunteering and sharing her passion for yoga with others.

In 2022, Patricia felt called to deepen her knowledge and strengthen her teaching skills. She completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training through SOYA and became a member of the International Yoga Alliance.

When you purchase your Balance Festival ticket or pass, you get to choose which sessions you would like to attend. Be sure to add Patricia’s gentle Hatha class to your Saturday schedule!

Not only does Jackie Fitzpatrick, from Town Yoga SJ, LOVE dogs—she also loves sharing her yoga practice at the Balance Festival! Jackie has taught at every Balance Festival, and we are so grateful to welcome her back. She will be teaching a Hatha yoga class on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Hatha yoga usually involves a combination of physical postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama). Postures are typically practised slowly and held for around five breaths.

Jackie fell in love with yoga in the early 2000s. Looking to try something new, she stumbled upon a beginner yoga class. She continues to practise today because yoga brings her to a place of “home.”

In 2013, Jackie graduated from the 200-hour teacher training program at the Amana Institute with a certificate in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. More recently, she completed 50 hours of Restorative yoga training and 100 hours of Yin yoga training through Satori Yoga.

Jackie enjoys teaching and loves sharing what she has learned, with the hope of helping others find their own feeling of “home” on the mat.
