Dear Twitches community,
Today would typically be our company's birthday, however this year we are writing with a different, bittersweet purpose. After 10 original and adapted creations, 11 productions, numerous community arts projects, mentorship initiatives, commissions, and charity fundraisers spanning an incredible 11 years, the gang at Twitches & Itches Theatre has decided the time has come to bring our collective project to a close. After many remarkable journeys together, the unique needs and interests of our various members required us at inevitable last to move in different directions. We've always been more of a band than a brand, and as sad as it is to let what has been such a rewarding undertaking end, we also know it is the right thing to do.
Twitches has always operated as a community within a community, and we are so thankful to everyone who has been part of this voyage with us. From the mostly emerging actors who decided to grow with us, devoting years to rigorous physical training and creation outside the major city centres, to the administrators and designers who saw value in our anarchic way of working,to the many community partners, especially the In the Soil Arts Festival where so much of our material and audience developed, and the Dramatic Art Department at Brock University which always went to bat for us, to our donors who helped us exceed every fundraising goal we ever set, to our municipal and provincial public funders who got behind experimental theatre--especially the St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program, which backed us every funding cycle since 2012--and above all to the audiences, who took us for the journey every bit as much as we did them, we are, beyond any possible expression, so very grateful.
It has been a privilege every step, song, headstand, lighting cue, curtain call of the way.
With so much love,
The Twitches gang.

Three years ago, the gang was doing funky stuff in a studio not really knowing what it was. It turned out to be on of our favourite Twitches' productions, September Songs.

The gang was back in the studio this weekend, working on two new original creations. It got creepy quickly. Stay tuned!

We're terribly sorry to learn of the passing of Maurice Rondeau, who volunteered at both our productions in the Hamilton Fringe and was an instant friend to all who met him. Sending sincere condolences to his enormous extended family in the performing arts scene and beyond. He was a gem.

While most people are winding down for the holidays, the Twitches gang has been revving back up, kicking two brand new creations into action. We just concluded a workshop with our New Creators' Unit--comprised entirely of young Brock-trained artists--of "Jubilee! The Debt Show." Meanwhile, company members Iain and Sean are in the midst of leading a workshop of "What Makes a Man," investigating the difficult concept of masculinity. We're thrilled to spend the end of our year in action, and can't wait to bring more your way in the new one. Stay tuned. :)

Yesterday we realized that, since Sean Aileen McClelland played a voiced role in "September Songs," tomorrow's Culture Days event will be the first time she has appeared physically in front of an audience with Kaylyn Valdez Scott in the company. (Most peculiar; they've been working together for a year and a half!) So excited to have the band back together, including Sean Rintoul, Iain Ellis, and Kaitlin Race, tomorrow at 2:00 PM, FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre!
Here's a little flashback from last year's Culture Days.

We are so excited to have our New Creators' Unit up and running! This group of new generation theatre artists--which just completed their first composition assignment together--will be developing an original one-act play with us over the course of the next year. Give a warm welcome to Rachel Romanoski, Taylor Bogaert, Lennon Bradford, Meryl Ochoa, returning company member Kaylyn Valdez Scott, and Grace Snippe!

Well, our wonderful Hamilton Fringe is coming towards a bittersweet close. Saturday night--really, very night--we have a 10:30 PM show, and then Sunday we wrap with a 2:00 PM matinee. We're thrilled with the responses and send major gratitude to the heroic fringe critics, who moved at hyperspeed to get us all quality coverage. If you're thinking of coming to one of our final 2 performances, here are accumulated critical quotes for your consideration! :)

Another great review from the heroic Steel City Girl Reviews, who was up late writing her 13th review of the weekend for us last night. MONSTER is on tonight at 6:30!
"Described as a 'classic Canadian one-man maniacal marathon by Daniel MacIvor,' is now expertly portrayed by Colin B. Anthes and aided by the script’s lyrical intensity that grabs us tight and doesn’t let go...Anthes slips vocally and physically into and out of these characters, effortlessly and often at high speed, and his stage manager/tech (James Rion McCoy) matches his manic pace with near-flawless lighting and sound cues. It’s a brilliant piece produced by Twitches & Itches Theatre and, as per usual, they do not disappoint..."
