St. Catharines Theatre Company Victim of Theft – Has to Cancel Performance
Wednesday February 27th 2013, St. Catharines, ON
neXt Company Theatre was the victim of a theft this evening at the Sullivan Mahoney theatre at 101 King Street in St Catharines. After an extraordinary opening night of our new production of Khalida last evening, we arrived to the theatre tonight to discover that the show computer with our lighting program and cues on it had been stolen from the control booth. This computer is integral to the production and without it we have had to cancel tonight’s show. We have had to turn away this evening’s 70 patrons and kindly ask them to return to another evening.
The cast and production team are devastated. neXt Company Theatres is a not-for-profit charitable professional theatre organization and has recruited top talent to offer this new creation to Niagara audiences. Last evening’s opening featured a sold out house, with representatives from the theatre industry from across southern Ontario in attendance.
Our question is: who would walk into an arts facility, climb up the scaffolding to the control booth, disconnect a computer, and leave the rest of the equipment behind?
Regardless, the show must go on, and we will be up and running again tomorrow evening. Please join us at one of the remaining performances Thursday Friday and Saturday (8pm with a 2pm matinee on Saturday) this week in solidarity as we make the most of these difficult circumstances.
Thank you to all our patrons!!
