The Foster Festival is seeking submissions for play development with the commitment to introducing new Canadian playwrights to Foster Festival audiences during our Fourth Annual Fostered Playwrights Festival in 2027.

The Foster Festival will workshop three new Canadian works which focus on the Festival's mandate of "humour with heart." Each play will be developed in conjunction with the Festival’s Artistic Producing Staff and will receive a public reading in April 2027. One or all of the three new plays may be chosen for a full production in upcoming seasons.

The Foster Festival is interested in full-length, two-act plays that read around the two-hour mark that may or may not touch upon relevant social issues. The Foster Festival encourages voices from diverse backgrounds, culture, gender, and sexual orientation as is reflected in our community of the greater Niagara Region and Canada as a whole.

Get ready to cast off on another unforgettable theatrical adventure as The Foster Festival sets its sights on 2027! The new season promises plenty of laughter and wonderful stories that will take you places—without ever leaving Niagara.

As Artistic Director & Founder of The Foster Festival, Emily Oriold says:

“Our 2027 season celebrates the breadth of what The Foster Festival has become. We have two thoughtful Norm Foster comedies with 'Ship to Shore' and 'The Gentleman Clothier,' while Barb Scheffler’s hit play, 'The Beaver Club,' will take audiences on a hilarious cross-country adventure. I’m incredibly excited to share the world premiere of my own play, 'Every Little Thing,' and we’ll close the year by returning to Niagara’s past with Jamie Williams’ adaptation of 'A Niagara Christmas Carol.' It’s a season filled with laughter, friendship, love, second chances, and stories that remind us how much we have in common — exactly the kind of theatre we want to share with our Foster Friends and audiences.”

The Foster Festival proudly presents the world premiere of 'Euchre Night,' the newest comedy by Norm Foster. Following an enthusiastic first reading at The Foster Festival's Playwrights Festival in April, this brand-new play now takes its first full step onto the stage at the Mandeville Theatre, Ridley College.

At the heart of 'Euchre Night' are four lifelong friends who have gathered around the Euchre table every week for more than three decades. Together they've weathered life's inevitable changes. But even the strongest bonds can be tested. As one friend embraces the possibility of a new beginning, the others must confront the reality that life—and friendship—can never stand still. The result is a comedy filled with sparkling humour, genuine warmth, and poignant truths.

This is more than the opening of a new play. It's another chapter in the remarkable career of Norm Foster—and it starts at The Foster Festival.
