What are you doing on Friday, May 29th? Catching another not-to-be-missed Suitcase Scratch Night? Sounds like a plan!

Come and see what this month’s artists have to share at our monthly Scratch Night where new work, experiments, stories and creative risks are shared live in front of an audience. A night of process over perfection and a chance to witness artists testing ideas, inviting connection and discovering what unfolds in real time.

✨ Destiny Paquin is an emerging multidisciplinary artist that will explore the idea that art can be found in everything. Through an open-monologue style performance titled “I’ve Been Given the Floor,” Destiny will reflect on creativity and the joy of spontaneous connection.

✨ Eve Atoms, a writer and performer from Niagara Falls will share from her latest work, RA/\R: The Ballad of Terra Tulpa, a collection of poetry that questions the relationship between reality and control through alternating lenses of mythic fantasy and dystopianism.

✨ Shannon Kitchings is a St. Catharines-based multidisciplinary artist, performer and the 2026 Poet Laureate of St. Catharines. Shannon will share excerpts from a work-in-progress exploring connection to place and home through understanding of mythology and nature. What makes a place a home? And how do you recognize it if you have been away for a very long time? Or maybe more importantly, how does home recognize you?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how certain moments carry years inside them – friendship, risks, late nights, the quiet belief that creating art matters.

As Deanna and her stage manager Laura wrap up in Calgary for the 40th annual High Performance Rodeo, we/I wanted to take a moment to send so much love and luck their way for their big finale tonight of Dee’s newest show, A Brief History of Smoking Ci******es.

The Rodeo, lovingly created by the remarkable artists of One Yellow Rabbit, has long been a place where bold, curious, fearless work finds its home. And while this moment feels huge (because it is), this is actually not Dee’s first Rodeo.

Dee first landed at the Rodeo in 2015 with her smash hit The Keith Richards One Woman Show - but the roots go back even further. Like did you know that without One Yellow Rabbit, there would actually be no Suitcase in Point? No In the Soil Arts Festival?

Back in 2001, after taking part in the Rabbits’ legendary summer intensive, Dee and a group of artists - Edwin, Natasha, Tyler, Alex, and Cole - decided to make St. Catharines their playground, inspired by OYR’s spirit of play, ambition, and belief in making great work exactly where you are.

Over the years, we remained fans but also became colleagues and friends, meeting up at festivals, hosting each other’s work, dancing and talking late into the night, and sharing some of the very best fun.

One of the greatest gifts the Rabbits gave us was permission: to root deeply, to dream big, and to build something meaningful at home.

As the Rodeo celebrates 40 years - and Suitcase in Point celebrates 25! - we feel nothing but gratitude for the doors they opened, the artists they championed, and the lives they quietly changed along the way. Their impact on Canadian theatre is immeasurable and all we can really say is thank you for the bravery, the brilliance, and the way your spirit keeps moving through all of us.

And Dee, we’re so damn proud. Knock ’em dead!
