The Right Key

The Right Key I am a musician and private piano teacher. I teach primarily beginner students, helping them to understand the piano and theory.

I love using games and activities so students can have "aha" moments as they learn how to play.

If your student's song of the week has words, encourage them to sing along with it or maybe sing yourself. No need to feel self conscious if you think you can't sing; younger students won't mind. This practice helps them to hear the notes better while they play and provides them with some extra reading practice if they are at a reading age.
Happy practicing!

How long does it take to learn the piano?
I've been asking myself this question over the last year. In my opinion, it will largely depend on several factors.
Some factors might include:
-what age you start at
-what you or the student personally want to gain from it
There are other responses; everybody will learn at a different pace and there are certain key concepts that I spend more time on than another teacher might.
Learning piano (or almost any instrument) is an art form as well as a science with a very broad range or repertoire that spans hundreds of years and countries.
If you are thinking of lessons in the fall, think start thinking about what you would like to learn and send a message about how we can move you toward those goals.
